There is light at the end of the tunnel!  Last October a massive landslide destroyed a section of SR14 in Cedar Canyon.  This is a major road, providing access to Duck Creek, Mammoth Creek and Cedar Breaks National Monument as well as to Kanab and even Lake Powell.  It has been closed since the landslide.

Several weeks ago construction began to repair the road and provide access.  The target was to get the road open by mid to late summer.  On Thursday, May 23rd at 3 PM a dirt road will open up and provide access to those destinations.  This will be a dirt road, and drivers should expect it to be 2 lanes, one going in each direction.

Jon, That is so true!  Thank you!

Lawrence, It will make things much better.

Joyce, This is true, but it beats the 50 to 60 mile detour that is now in place.

It is difficult to imagine there could ever be a road in that spot.  However, I know it is possible after traveling through your beautiful state, and have done so.  I hope you have a GREAT weekend!

Tony and Darcy - it's great that you're keeping your Cedar Canyon residents informed of the progress.  I'm sure it's felt like forever to them.

John, We do use the road, it is the main access to the mountains east of Cedar City.

Kristin, It will be good to get the road back open.

Roy, That is very true, they will also have to pay attention to the construction schedule, the road will not be open while they are working on it.

Myrl, The road goes around the area in the photograph.

Juli, Thank you!

What an amazing photo. Once the road is fixed/paved this could happen again. Are they planning to do more to the hillside besides adding the road?
