O.K. what's the deal with Home Inspectors constantly dogging each other?

As I sift through the hundreds of Home Inspector groups and blogs on A.R. There is one constant I keep seeing over and over again, and that is, Inspector after Inspector ragging on other Inspectors for whatever reason. Oh this Inspector calls himself "Certified" and he is a hack, or don't fall for all of the Acronyms after their name, they went to school at the Leroy Brown school of Home Inspections, or any moron could have found that defect. Come on guys, stop the madness. It just turns my stomach to see so many people in our profession just acting like a bunch of little kids. Is everyone really THAT arrogant? Do most Inspectors REALLY think that they are the best, the almighty expert of everything and everyone else is just a cookie cutter?

If you live in a state like I do (Indiana), where you "HAVE" to be certified and licensed to be a home Inspector, it is NOT easy to become a Home Inspector, and you ARE going to tell people you are certified and licensed, because that is the law. To become an Inspector in these states is very hard, and it is quite an accomplishment when you do become one. I for one DO tell everyone I meet.."Yes I am certified and licensed" and I am darn proud to say so. I busted my tail to get where I am, and I will be doggone if I am going to let one of my peers call me some "hack" or say that I don't deserve to be in this business.

There is enough Jealousy and hatred in this world already, we do not need this kind of behavior in this profession. Yes, we are in some competition with others in our service area, but what gives one person the right to judge another in a derogatory manner just to make themselves look like they are the Messiah of Home Inspectors?

Instead what we should be doing is banning together, and help one another. Share ideas, and experiences so that we can continue to learn and provide superior service to our clients.

Peace

Mike, You have my vote, and support for everyone brings in their own experience and knowledge. Of-course I havn't spent any time on the home inspectors groups yet.

Right on Jeff! I agree with you, everyone has their own unique experience and knowledge to bring to this profession. I have found in doing Inspections that you never stop learning, and certainly no one can say that they know everything there is to know.

Mike, I will give you qualified "agreement."  Most inspectors are "alpha wolves" and you know what happens when you get a bunch of alpha wolves together----a whole lot of barking and posturing; and, while annoying, it comes with the territory.  State licenses represent a "minimum" standard.  I think some of this leads to resentment by the experienced inspectors:  that the newer ones can come into the field on an "equal" footing because they have a "license."  The beef I have with the experienced inspectors is that the watered down Standards of Practice and minimum licensing requirements allows all of us to produce mediocre reports and thus mediocre service.  We all are required either by the state or by our various associations to have x-number of hours of continuing education and yet it rarely translates to additional service to buyers.  If the more experienced inspectors have superior service power, why doesn't it show in the inspection reports they produce (of course I am speaking in very broad generalizations here, and obviously there are a lot of top notch inspectors out there)?

Hey Charles, Well I don't know that I would say that new inspectors come in on an "equal footing". Even being certified and licensed, no one acknowledges your existence as an inspector until you have been around for a year or two. That is a good take you have on the Alpha wolves though.

Amen Mike, Even in our state (Florida) where there is no licensing, we try never to disparage another inspector, that's just petty.  No one knows the full extent of another inspectors experience and an acronym will never tell you of an inspectors true skill. We should leave the finger pointing and badmouthing of inspectors to the Handymen.

Good point Mike, I feel the same. Even though there is competition we should stick together. It sure would make our profession look a lot better to the consumer. You don't see many real-estate agents degrading each other and there are a lot more of them than there are of us. Oh and be proud to be licensed and certified.

There's snakes in the grass in all professions, ours, realtors, appraisers, mortgage brokers, electricians, used car salesmen, lawyers, etc, etc, etc.

Just nail em when you can, ignore em when you can't and get on with life.

Life isn't a Rodney King moment "Can't we all just get along."  Ain't going to happen.

No it probably won't happen if everyone thinks like that. "Nail em when you can, ignore em when you can't"?? What's up with that? There wouldn't be snakes in the grass if everyone just minded their own business and did their job.

While I do not agree with you Erby, I thank you for your comment all the same.
