Relay for Life at Enka High School was a huge success

WGNW 957 The Choice and several radio personalities attended and provided live broadcast from the Relay for Life held at Enka High School last night.

Heavy rain, thunder and crisp lightning were the star of the Relay for Life  event and caused a 30 minute delay in the schedule. After all, you can't have 400 people walking around a football field in those conditions. The storm moved on and everyone came out to support and donate to the "Celebrate, Remember and Fight back against Cancer!" Yes, over 400 I would say.

There were many activities offered from the dunking booth , Pie in a friend's face, the students and local groups taking the stage for various music genres, the young men dressed as women,  to the raffles and food offerings. You name it,: it was there.

We were invited to the event from the wonderful staff at McDonalds in Enka NC. They went all out  as usual to support their local community. Thank you for letting us enjoy this evening!

The stars of the event were the survivors taking their victory lap. These are people who have stories that will bring your heart and encourage the journey of those fighting the Big C on their own.

I had the pleasure of listening to several survivors. One strong woman was Mary Jo Bunch of Hope Church. Mary Jo was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and given 3 months survival time. That was 11 years ago and last night Mrs. Bunch was walking the entire victory lap and even took time to tell me her uplifting and encouraging  journey.  The treatment that was given to Mary Jo was surprisingly successful and is now being given to many new cancer diagnose.

The toll taken on cancer patients, their families and the entire community can not be described. From teenage daughters hiding their tear stained faces while their mother told of her current situation fighting breast cancer to the little 2 year old blonde hair beauty just starting her battle, the message is clear.

We all must do something- Offer your time, love or money to your local Relay for Life, American Cancer Society or a cancer fighter in your community. We must continue this strong outreach to celebrate Mary Jo's victory and to heal the 2 year old girl and others!

You can go to Relay for Life to locate the Relay happening now in your area.
