Here's one thing you don't expect to happen every day. You're a Land Park agent, out showing homes near Robertson and Riverside. You step outside into the sunshine and BAM, BAM, you hear gunshots. That's what happened on Friday to an Elizabeth Weintraub team member. The agent called to share the news about Bodie, the police dog who was shot in the line of duty. A suspected car thief shot the canine during a police chase through Land Park. Bodie was shot in his jaw and paw.

We talked about the dog for a few minutes, and then I asked if the clients were still interested in buying homes in Land Park. That's something I would do. Focus on real estate and animals. None of our conversation centered on the suspect killed by police nor his accomplice. The suspect's accomplice was later apprehended and identified as Leslie McCulley.

The police are not identifying the shooter.

You can donate money for Bodie's recovery and reconstructive surgeries. It's expected to cost upwards of $25,000, and he may out of commission for a few months. This heroic dog saved an officer's life. His condition is improving. It's no longer critical. But he is not out of the woods.

The Land Park buyers are still interested in buying a home in Land Park. They realize this kind of incident can happen anywhere. Even in an upscale community like Land Park.

Elizabeth, i have to admit I've never had that happen to me, I'm glad to hear Brodie will recover, those dogs are amazing assets to their departments and all that they do.

That is terrible to hear about, I am just glad that Bodie was not killed, that would have been absolutely horrible news.

My managing broker used to work with a K9 unit when she was a police officer. I imagine she is very concerned over this incident. Those dogs put their lives on the line every day, but what kind of person could or would shoot a dog?

I hope the poor dog is okay.  I once was out showing homes in a neighborhood and saw a throng of police cars descend and officers jump out and run with their bullet proof vests on, rifles drawn.  Not a good feeling.

I really just need ten minutes alone with the shooter.... just ten little minutes.

Hi Chris Ann: The dog is still in serious condition but he is expected to pull through, thank goodness. Everybody at the nail salon on Riverside was talking about it on Friday.

Hi Tammy: What else would you do to him? He's already dead. The police officer shot him after the the shooter shot the dog. The officer left the guy lying there dead on the ground while he scooped up the dog and rushed the dog to the vet. Police know just what to do in an emergency.

Morning Elizabeth and the business of selling must go on.  I retired after 29 years in L.E. and for the most part I would not have changed anything about my education.  I hope the canine recovers and has a prosperous life

Elizabeth - I had no idea you were so close to this incident.  Oddly enough, I had just come from searching for more news on Bodie's condition.  His plight is heartbreaking.  It appears he will survive this, but has some challenges ahead in his recovery.  I understand in addition to other injuries, he has a shattered jaw. But I know good veteranarians often do miraculous things.  I understand Bodie's human partner, sleeps with him at the vet hospital on a cot.
