Death of a Title Company

As many of you have heard Alliance Title Company has closed its doors in the Central Valley of California. It came as a shock to everyone including the thousands of people that it employed. Why is this such big news?, it was the largest company and handled a large amount of real estate transactions in this area, and it gave its employees and all real estate agents a one or two day notice before closing its doors. Did it disrupt business? Absolutely. Many transactions were disturbed and cancelled altogether as a result of this.

The sad part is that I am sure that this scenario is playing out throughout the nation and is not just limited to one region, one area, or one part of the nation. Although this is very frustrating as an agent. It is important that we adapt to any situation that we encounter. Therefore it is vital to have contacts with multiple title companies and have many resources lined up for our clients. I will tell you it greatly disturbed me the closing of Alliance Title, but now that I have had a few weeks to reflect on it, I will tell you that it actually will make me a better agent, because I have now formed alliances with title agents in multiple companies and has helped me expand my sphere of influence. It reminded me not to limit myself and regardless of the market or the situation at hand you can survive it or you can thrive in it. Attitude is perception and perception is attitude. How you feel about something will help to dictate what you do and how you approach the situation. Just remember this when you are facing a down market or if you are upset that you are not making the sales you did a few years ago. We can't dwell in the past, but only can prepare for the future.  What are you going to do? How are you going to approach diversity? That is what separates the professionals from the hobbiests.

Hi Matthew, we also have had title companies close....some were just as unexpected.  This market has put a huge strain on many segments of the market.  We have also have a few of the small brokerages drop out too.  Nice post.

Wow, I haven't had any title companies close, but I had a mortgage company lock its doors the day of closing. It gave no warning to its employees or agents, either.

It put a huge strain on the market, but we will get through it. I have learned to be positive and good things will come.

The sad part about this, is that it was doing the majority of transactions in this area.
