Well as I write the "STORM" has finally hit SoCal. The news programs have been running full features for days. Yes everyone it is RAINING. Now aside from the danger around burn areas from run off it will probably not result in too much. But it is SoCal and it is RAINING. Now I agree the roads will be very dangerous. Dangerous from what? Oh yes all those SoCal driver who have no idea how to drive in the rain and will spin off the road at the mere mention of sprinkles.

So for all of you in areas of the country that get REAL STORMS, how does our SoCal storm compare. Oh and don't forget it is raining...

Hi Graham, the news has been saying your guys are getting a winter storm....but SoCal?  I doubt you will get more than rain....but the hazard is indeed the drivers!  Nice post.

Graham, I was listening to Dr. Michael Savage on the radio today complaining about not being able to have his groceries wrapped in a plastic bag to protect them from the rain.  Apparently plastic bags have been banned in San Francisco...

Brian - Yes they were banned. What are we going to do now. I say send in FEMA..

Graham, my phone is out, there is a river running down my street and I'm in a mudslide area where a storm like this can take out my road.  The STORMWATCH coverage can be ridiculous, but there are dangers out here besides the drivers.  Just watch out for those reporters standing at that same intersection that floods every time it rains that never gets fixed when it's dry :)

Elaine I am truly sorry to hear about the difficulties you are having. My blog was tongue in cheek and more aimed at the areas not affected by mudslides such as yours.

I know, Graham.  I'm sorry if my comment came off as anything but more info.  Southern CA is so varied -- we have every kind of terrain there is.  That's one of the reasons I love it so much.  I joke with my sisters who have now moved out of state about STORMWATCH news.  I get frustrated with it because they hype everything so much, you never know when there is a real crisis.  A close up of a reporter standing in a puddle tells me nothing.

I hope this storm brings wonderful blooms to the desert in your area this year.

Elaine I was just worried I had offended you. The news reports seem to focus on puddles forming somewhere rather than the bigger issues. Keep safe.

It was worse than just raining up here in the SF East Bay... the winds blew a lot of fences & trees down, and we were without power for over 24 hours.  For a computer addict, that is very difficult!  I even had to READ a book by candle light rather than watch TV!  And I had to eat cold spaghetti.  That must count for something.  : )

You are correct... my 10-year-old daughter said, "This is the worst storm ever."  I said, "Really, worse than Katrina?" (That's one she remembers & donated her excess toys to).  She said, "Well, that I've been in, okay?".  We are spoiled.

Gosh that's hilarious, yes the roads are ALWAYS dangerous in Southern California. Actually right now there are a lot less cars on the road thus, safer? Almost, still here in Malibu we are on high alert tonight for landslides and it can happen as its happened before. Yes the newsmedia often blows things out of proportion indeed. - Lance
