Improper dryer venting

Well, it looks as if the infamous Unhandy Andy has been hard at work again. You know him, the knot-headed nitwit of the construction world whose motto must be "We Will Make It Work". This guy must be ambidextrous, because he can take a job and screw it up with either hand.  Here, once again, is a demonstration of some of his unhandy work. This photo is a classic example on how not to install a dryer vent. Not only did he use the wrong type of vent, plastic is no longer accepted for heated exhausts, but he also just left the pipe dangling in the attic!  BTW, since the house had a crawlspace, one wudda thunk that he would have run the vent under the house. Makes my head hurt ~~ no wonder I buy aspirin in the giant economy size box.

Don't you just love these guys?  You must see a lot of blog fodder in your line of work!

First thing I want to know when I see a finished basement or garage is, who did it and did they pull a permit?  Who knows what's behind that drywall or panelling??

I especially love the house listed with a full finished basement and when you see it is has a few studs and a light bult hanging from a ceiling box.  It's an "not quite finished" finished basement.

Listing agent have a responsibility to be accurate about this stuff.  Often, they are not.

Michael,

It's amazing what you see. We are in a second home resort area and many of the older homes were owner builder. You might guess what that leads to.

Michael

Keep the posts and the photos coming...it is quite interesting to see the handi work of others. As agents we get to see alot of this type of "quality" work. When I am out showing buyers I get a kick out of asking the wife if her man is handy... he shakes his head yes and she says no!... lol

I am not at all handy so I have a list of people I use for all my work...and they are great

Keep them coming

Mike, on behalf of all men named Andrew I am outraged by your use of the moniker "Unhandy Andy." Many Andrews are handy and then, well, there's guys like me. You'll be hearing from my legal counsel, Drew, Andrew & Andy. Those guys can't install a dryer vent either! (P.S. My father's name was Mike and he was the most talented man with his hands and head.)

Michael, I think dryer exhausts and water heaters are two of the most common items the homeowner thinks they can do themselves----just go down to the "big orange tool-box," buy what they tell you and get-er-done!  If only things just wouldn't "function" when they are done wrong:)

Love the Unhandy Andy term - haven't heard that one!  My father was the best carpenter, and all around fix it guy, ever. It just boggles my mind when I see the kind of thing that you feature here! Apparently common sense, is rarer than I thought.
