MUSIC ON MONDAYS - 1981 STONES CLASSIC

Last Saturday night, I was fortunate to catch the season finale of "SNL" when, for the very first time, Mick Jagger acted as host. I thought he did a great job with the various sketches he participated in. Also a huge surprise was Kristen Wiig's farewell number after seven years on the show. I was caught off guard as NBC made no prior announcement of her departure and it wasn't until the final scene where Mick Jagger plays a principal at a high school graduation who singles out "one student who is leaving this summer"  for a dance, that I realized it was for real.

I absolutely adore her and I'm really sorry to see her go. She is so incredibly talented. There doesn't seem to be any character that she can't play. But she's been very busy with her movies; most recently, Bridesmaids and has many more in various stages of development.

In any case, on this dreary, dark and rainy Monday night, I'm feeling like the perfect music could only come from The Rolling Stones. They defined my generation and their less well-known number Waiting on a Friend has always been a personal favorite.

Mick Jagger did an absolutely incredible job on SNL. His rendition of Satisfaction still makes me laugh. Truly a great talent and showing the world a side of him that I have never seen before.

It gave me great.....SATISFACTION.

Jill, I guess her movie career is keeping her busy enough. It's not the last we'll see of her I'm sure.

I liked the skit where everyone was imitating Mick Jagger singing and he was saying none of them were any good, and the song Moves Like Jaggar they were saying was a Rolling Stones song. Great episode even with the departure news of Kristen....

Mick Jagger will always be great! Leave it to the folks at SNL to do it right!

Hi Jill, I missed it...and now will need to go and see if I can get it on demand! I just heard on Entertainment Tonight about Kristin Wiig leaving the SNL cast. She was one of the reasons I enjoyed it so and really added to SNL becoming fun to watch again.

I thought it was a fabulous SNL too. Mick was a rock star - literally. Lol. As for Kristen Wiig, she's awesome. It won't be the same without her will it? Love her Lennon sister-like "tiny hands" character...cracks me up.

That would have been great to see.  And, you picked the exactly perfect song to add.  Thanks, Jill.

Jill: It's always tough when a favorite cast member leaves SNL- for me, I felt bad when Phil Hartman left.  He was like Kristen Wiig- He could play any character, too.  Thanks for sharing the Stones song, also.  Great track, although my personal favorite will always be Ruby Tuesday.

Jill -- I tuned in when Mick did his first musical number. I just thought he was the musical guest....not the host. Then I was in and out and didn't come back until the end.  I, too, was surprised that Kristen was leaving,  Didn't think it was for real until I saw her face.  She was really trying to hold it together.  There was no acting there. You're right. She could do just about anything.

Thanks for commenting everyone. SNL is usually really funny and I'm glad I caught last week's episode. Everybody's got their favorite on the show, Kristin Wiig just happens to be mine. Always a big Stones fan. Just saw them in concert a couple years back at the Meadowlands in NJ.  What a show! You'd never have known how old Mick Jagger is from his performance. He was running back and forth across the stage like someone 1/3 his age. Gary, I agree with you that that skit was particularly funny.

Moving on and moving up, I guess Jill.  She is very funny.  There will be lots of business for her.  By the way, I love your picture on the signature line.  Did you do that?

Jagger as the insurance agent in that skit just killed me! And, I've always loved this Stones tune. Well done Jill.

Well Jill, you make me want to check out this SNL for sure. I don't watch much TV and rarely watch SNL, but apparently there are quite a few of us who do :)
