Happy New Year To Everyone on The Rain

One of our members had started a great blog on When To Quit.  A great discussion started on advertising and marketing.  I mentioned in my comments I built an advertising budget into my business plan and yes my background is advertising/marketing and I'm a believer even though at times it seems fruitless.  Also, before I get many comments again on how print does not work, I also believe that you have to have your eggs in MANY baskets...

So, why am I writing today?  A few months ago I was approached by an editor of a local magazine about an article on staging (all those eggs in baskets caught her attention)  I was excited and immediately responded to speak with her.  Almost immediately she e-mailed me back and decided to take a different approach by talking to interior designers who were adding staging to their services for added income because I had just had a large article published in another magazine about staging and she didn't want to repeat, replicate...do the same thing.

I felt broken.  I really admire this editor and wanted to be in a magazine I enjoy reading... almost just sat back to lick my wounds...after a quick pity party, I immediately wrote the editor to let her know the significant differences I feel between a  Professional Real Estate Stager and an interior designer.  How my focus is more on marketing the home by my props, furnishings and accessories and how I (and I know there are many out there who feel differently) see how I "feel" in a home I'm going to stage and then express that "feeling" through my staging...In the home that is featured I felt it screamed great corporate retreat home, party home...

Not to lose for my fellow stagers an avenue to help the public understand (by the upcoming article), I asked her to contact Sandy Dixon the director of IRIS and speak with her if she did not want to highlight me or my company because of several articles in the recent past that highlighted my work and philosphy....WHEW the result is great for the staging profession:

Hi Renee - Great article you have there and I agree with you, many buyers are looking for homes they can "connect" with.

Great article.... The photos were lovely.  The article should play well to your Myrtle Beach high end resort homes.  I particularly love the rounded sofa... really nice.

Wonderful article Renee!  I also believe in keeping your eggs in many baskets and the power of print advertising and marketing.  It can be a big investment, but if one remains persistent, it certainly pays off.  This article is basically free PR for Renewed Rooms and worth a lot of money.

Thank you.  Yes my reason for the way I staged was to play this home to the Myrtle Beach High end market.  As I'm sure you do too, I always think about who would be the target market before I put a stick of furniture in the home.

Yes, the right furniture for the home is crucial.... I know when I staged one of the IOP homes here that was very french country I had to mix the overall look of the home with the more laid back feel of the community.  (Something the seller also agreed and felt strongly about.)

I attended the agent open house afterwards and actually was told by one of the agents that they had hired another stager, but hadn't staged the property and was going to hire us instead because of how the home looked.  I wasn't particularly comfortable with that situation but the open house in general did land me a lot of great business!
