Little league baseball season has basically ended for this year.
Not to worry! We now have an eight year old grandson playing "flag" football."
Although I never have understood football, this sport has potential.
There are basic things I do understand.
In about the third quarter yesterday, one of the players on the opposing team was making a great run. Suddenly he planted his feet and turned to escape an on coming player.
We were sitting about thirty yards away on the side lines when his turn resulted in a loud snap! Now, I know I have heard about the snap in football, but this was not at all what I thought it was.
The child went down into a crumpled heap. His wails of pain could not be missed.
His coach summoned help and for about ten minutes all the kids and coaches were huddled around the downed player giving him what ever comfort they could.
Finally the child's father was located. He felt around on the knee which had produced the "snap."
It was determined that the game was over for today for this player. He thankfully was more frightened than injured as he was able to put weight on the leg later in the day.
The change in the demeanor of the child was remarkable when his father showed up. His Dad carried him off the field lovingly assuring him all the way.
This was One more illustration of how love and trust are such important parts of our physical and emotional well being.
With his Dad at his side the child was suddenly confident that all was going to be alright.
Who do you have in your life that gives you that sort of reinforcement?
Snaps and snafus are a part of life. Be sure that you have a team that gives you love and support.
Of all the gifts we receive in this life, those are totally priceless.
