A Visual Tour of Washington, DC in May 2012 - Fun, Food, Friends, Memories and Real Estate

I spent 4 whirlwind days in Washington, DC last week for the Mid-Year Council of Residential Specialist (CRS) meetings, a series of legislative/educational committee meetings with national and regional leadership - I'm on the National Educational Forum committee.

The Washington Monument in Washington, DCIt was 4 days of fun, food, friends, memories and real estate!

I suppose it's possible to have a bad meal in DC but I can't say I have.

I highly recommend Sette Osteria at 1666 Connecticut Avenue. I ate there twice!! Bistro Bistro and Bistro du Coin on Connecticut close by ranked right up there, too. Despite having an intense schedule there was certainly time to eat - I take being a foodie seriously!

There was plenty of fun time and friends, starting Wednesday with a wonderful evening with 11 AR friends, 9 of whom I was meeting in person for the first time in Annapolis. You can read about that gathering here ...DON'T EAT THAT YET!: Famous Words from an ActiveRain Gathering in Annapolis MD.

I also got to connect with many friends in CRS leadership, including other Past and Current CRS Chapter Presidents.

Early morning on Thursday it was off to the Washington Monument with 14,000 or so other blue-shirted REALTORS from around the country for the REALTOR RALLY TO PROTECT HOME OWNERSHIP.

You can read more about that inspiring event here or in this article by Cindy Jones who I got to meet IN PERSON at the Annapolis dinner!

I graduated from the University of Maryland and spent quite a bit of time in DC, so I got to know it well - that was YEARS ago of course! I didn't use to think much about the architecture and sights since I lived there but being away now for many years and living on the west coast, which looks completely different, results in a renewed interest in playing tourist with my camera when I had a few free moments.

Kramerbooks and Afterwords Cafe in Dupont Circle, Washington, DC

I also took walk back in time at Kramerbooks and Afterwords Cafe, a very cool bookstore and cafe in Dupont Circle since 1976. I worked there MANY years ago for about 9 months while finishing undergrad and before heading off to grad school. It seems everyone in Washington knows about this place, and there nothing else like it. The really neat thing for me visiting, and enjoying lunch one day is that I met my wife there!

Enjoy a short visual tour of things in DC that caught my camera's eye! Of course it doesn't do justice toWashington, DC sights in the way good friend Pat Kennedy's posts do!

Oh my,  you came to our town.  I didn't go to the NAR march on DC  last Thursday, and now I wish I had, I might have seen a lot of agents I know from here.  We're only 30 minutes from DC... next time  you're in the area we should schedule a Realtor get together here at my beach.  It's lovely and close to DC. :) I like your new picture.

Wonderful photos Jeff. The architecture in DC is amazing and you captured it beautifully. It is a whole different world on this side compared to CA and am so happy you were able to spend some time in your old stomping ground. :0)

Kathy - thanks for the compliment! Yep, DC is a pretty neat place to visit and there is certainly no lack of stuff to do and see. The traffic especially at rush hour is real ugly but the Metro is great.

Hey Joe - sorry we missed each other! I did not get to the reception as I was on my way to the Annapolis AR gathering.

Tammie - indeed. I wanted to spend more time getting to the memorials but just couldn't work it in.

Gail - another meetup would be great fun. THere were a ton of people at the rally but I did not sede anyone I knew personally - but it was fun nonetheless.

Cindy - thanks. I just did not have the time I would have liked to spend playing instead of working. But our Annapolis event was THE BEST!

Martha - it was really great fun visiting, for a host of reasons. I had no plans when walking around with my camera - I just took pics of things that came in my view that interested me. Wish I had more time. But my visit with everyone in Annapolis was REALLY the highlight!

Hannah - I hope so too! And getting together with AR friends REALLY is special - no one should miss such an opportunity

Kramers is one of my favorite cafés in DC. I love to order the mango coconut chicken salad, if you get the chance you should really try it sometime.

George - there are an amazing array of great restaurants there - these were within 5 blocks of my hotel.

Jennifer - thanks! Yep, it was a fabuklous evening, even though it took us 2 hours to get there due to traffic. Well worth it, though.

Joan - Dupont Circle is a very cool area for sure. And yes, the gathering was the highlight in so many ways.

Pat - wasn't that fun?? I hope to get back soon but suspect it many not be until the meetings again next May
