Co-Author a BookYou can do it!  Yes, YOU!  Imagine yourself as a published author.  Okay, so you already are -- you write a blog after all and that's published online.  Now imagine yourself as a published co-author of a book on real estate technology.

There are some very fine Active Rain members who have already published their own books.  Two come to mind immediately:  Patricia Kennedy who penned The Irreverent Guide to Real Estate, and Bill Cherry with his Galveston MemoriesI'm fortunate enough to have autographed copies from both authors.

Now you can be the proud co-author of a new book for Realtors about real estate technology and the future of the real estate industry.  Kathi Frank from The Woodlands, Texas is spearheading a project to involve 12 co-authors.  Kathi has previously co-authored several books on real estate, coaching, and mentoring.  I was flattered to have been contacted by her recently to be involved in this project and have volunteered to help her find some more contributing co-authors.

Here's the roster of Active Rain members who have already agreed to participate in the creation of this new book:

Kathi Frank   Natalie Langford   Sarah Reiter  Brian Block   Renee Burrows   Allison Stewart

Kathi Frank     Natalie Langford     Sarah Reiter      Brian Block    Renee Burrows   Allison Stewart

Lipstick KissesSomehow, my active participation on Active Rain has once again enabled me to get surrounded by a bunch of very talented and extremely good-looking women.  If that's not success, I don't know what is!  We better get some more male co-authors before my wife thinks I planned this.  Speaking of my wife, if you haven't read it already, you might want to learn How I Proposed to My Wife: 4 Important Lessons Learned for Real Estate.

In all seriousness, Kathi is putting out the call for 6 more co-authors.  Here are some of the still available chapter topics:

        • How to choose a template website company
        • How to build your own website

        • Search engine optimization

        • Pay per click and other web advertising

        • New communication challenges with your sphere of influence and referral based lead

        • Social media and its affect on the real estate industry

        • Using mobile tech tools like PDAs

Note that this is a suggested list and other topics may arise based on input from the co-authors.

Sell the book for profitEach co-author will obtain the rights to sell the book at profit!  Think about the possibilities.  YOU -- A published author.  Speak before Realtor groups.  Talk at your office meetings.  Keynote at a convention.  You never know where an opportunity will lead.

Please contact Kathi Frank while space is still available.  Put your writing skills and technology know-how to use and help teach the current and next generation of Realtors about real estate in the digital age.

Read Kathi's post Would you like to co-author a book? for more details on this project.

Social media is the only one I would feel confident in writing something I would consider factual or "meaty" enough for a book

01/07/2008 10:53 AM by Matthew Zgonc, REALTOR® for Modesto, CA (ERA Village One Real Estate)

Brian - Will I have to do book tours? I have lost a lot of weight and need to replenish my wardrobe if I am going to be called upon to do book signings. Are graphics important? You know I am graphically challenged on blogs. Is there an age restriction? I know most agents on the web are just youngsters and they may not be inclined to listened to the wizened ramblings of a geezer.

01/07/2008 12:31 PM by John MacArthur The MacArthur Group (Long and Foster Real Estate, Inc.)

Brian, I hope you don't mind me trying to answer a few of John's questions on your blog.

Each author that is selected will have the OPPORTUNITY to promote the book at a profit.  There will be no requirement to do so.  There are no age requirements.  In fact, all effort will be made to get a representative group from all age groups and geographic locations.

The response has been overwhelming and I will NOT be able to use each of the writers that have offered to be a part of the project.  My hope is to spend enough time to select the co-authors by Wednesday.  I feel that I owe it to the generous and talented experts in AR to get an answer to them quickly.

John, I will consider you and what you have to offer and let you know if I can include you.

To others that have an interest:  Please indicate your area of expertise when you contact me.  You are all wonderful and I appreciate you, Kathi Frank

Of all the groups, this is one of my favorites.

01/09/2008 06:05 AM by Mike Frazier, Dyersburg Tn Real Estate (Carousel Realty of Dyer County)

Brian, You sell your wife on your innocence you're a better salesman than I.

I like this idea of a group effort to write a book. I've got to think how I could use this.

In the mean time, good luck to everybody involved.

01/12/2008 04:12 PM by Brian Block -- Northern Virginia & D.C. Real Estate (RE/MAX Allegiance)
