Excllent information.  Regular maintenance is cleaning can remedy most of these issues too.

Good stuff... but how about this one.. I have a son who is an ER Doc... and he tells me that the most dangerous thing in every house is their stairs... Yikes!!!  Thanks to him when ever I am on a flight of stairs "I focus"...

Have a great day!

You always have good tips on your blog. I would add carbon monoxide to the CNN Money list. It is inexpensive and easy to install a carbon monoxide dedector.

Thanks for the compliment, Emily! I agree - Carbon monoxide AND radon should be added! An office I work in was tested for air quality after I complained of headaches and high carbon monoxide was detected - a simple air filtering system fixed it.

Thanks, Paula - maintenance is key to any house, isn't it?

Good point, Richard and Beth - I would like to say Samantha the Wonder Dog has offered me more bumps and bruises than pretty much anything else in my house also, but the stairs are a close second. I had a neurologist tell me once that his business came primarily from 2 sources - genetics, and trampoulines. Yikes! Trampoulines you can avoid, but stairs!!??

Very great advice. I know I let the smoke detector battery slip from my mind often - had no idea it was #2 on the list! Great tips and I'll keep it all in mind. It can be easy to forget when you are in and out of the house all the time, and when you're in, you just want to relax!
