Carlsbad is located about 30 miles north of downtown San Diego and offers an idyllic year-round beach lifestyle. South Carlsbad State Beach is, in my opinion, one of the nicest in North County San Diego.

Carlsbad home buyers seeking to live within walking distance of the beach with possible ocean views may be interested in Poinsettia Cove.

Poinsettia Cove is located along the Coast Highway (Route 101) just to the east, so while the community is not directly on the water, homes on the western edge along the road have terrific beach and sunset views. And being within a 5 minute walk to a terrific beach is not too bad.

The Four Seasons Aviara Hotel is nearby for upscale dining, golf and the fabulous spa. Carlsbad Village is a couple of miles north along the coast with plenty of shopping and restaurants. This area is a favorite for bicyclists because of the gorgeous ocean views. The Carlsbad Outlet Mall is less than 2 miles away, as is Legoland and The Flowerfields.

Homes in Poinsettia Cove (a gated community) are all detached, and a number of homes serve as second homes or even vacation rentals throughout the year. The community is residential, with a nice park area and patios, built-in BBQ, fire pit and playground, but no swimming pool – who cares, since the blue Pacific is just a short distance away. You can walk to shopping as well as a few restaurants, and the 5 freeway is less than a ½ mile away providing easy commuting downtown or north.

Carlsbad homes at Poinsettia Cove range in size from a little over 2000 SF up to almost 2700 SF with 3 to 4 bedrooms, and 2.5 to 3 baths; homes are all two story. Residents pay a monthly HOA fee as well as a small monthly Mello-Roos fee.
