I recently posted an add in the LA Craiglist.com jobs section to help find a writer to help with some newsletter work.  Within three hours I received over 50 applications and had to pull the add.  Oddly enough, it's where we've been getting lots of phone calls for our property listings.

I've stumbled across guru.com and really like the concept.  It's like Craigslist but previous users of a professional can rate their work, how much the vendor has made, post comments on their work, and the vendors can post an online resume.

Guru.com has tons of different job types available.  I notice many graphic and web designers are working from India.  Does anyone have any experience with this site good or bad?  I want to find someone with advanced SEO skills (php) because I know longer have the time to keep up with this developing industry.

I know plenty go to Craigs list although with them pulling plenty of my listings from the site.  I will find another way to list my properties for people to find them.

Why is Craigslist pulling listings?  Is it other Realtors flagging you posting?  I've never had that happen.
1:04am • #2

I'd like to know about Craigslist pulling listings too, as I was getting ready to start using Craigslist.

Thanks,

Janine

Janine - use craigslist. Post in the right category, don't over post and follow their guidelines and it will serve you well. I've been using it for about 4 years with great success. Over 1000 ads posted and maybe 5 flagged off. Craigslist staff generally doesn't get involved but you'll find out what I mean. Definitely give it a try.

I have had good luck on Craigslist and have no interest in an India based anything.  Enough business has gone out of this country.

Craigslist is awesome. Sometimes that pull duplicate listings and they will also pull listings that are posted in the improper category, but like Ken said "give it a try".

I have used elanc similar to guru.com. The great thing about elance and Guru is they are rated by past clients. How do you know about the person from Craig's list?

Last august i got an apartment from westsiderentals.com, and i you till now i never had any kind of interference from landlords , i can do wht i feel like,,,. Westside Rentals really have a great relationship with their landlords.

I use craiglist all the time.  I just disclose that I am a real estate agent.

Your post gets pulled from craigslist.com if it gets flagged twice. It doesn't go to review it just gets removed.  It could be your competition.  I have not used guru.com I will check it out though.

I got really new experience when I called westside rentals. Actually, I talked to a real person directly when I called them , it was not like the stupid answering machine picking the phone and wasting our time.
I am sure that I will be registering with westside rentals only, as the responses I got from them are really great and I had really searched for the quality of service they provide on net , and got various positive points about them ,which were lacking in many other big rental portal.

I've had 2 listings sell off of Craigslist.  Use it consistently and you will get results.  Make sure to open an account so you can easily edit, re-post and delete your listings.  Craigslist does not love html so keep your listings simple.  Craigslist has gotten some flack for not policing their housing ads for Equal Housing violations so make sure you identify yourself as a licensee in your ads, along with your company and contact info.  Believe it or not, there are agents who do not do so.

I originally found some folks I wanted to use for copywriting on craigslist but ended up scrapping the project so I do not have any feedback on the product. However, I did find quality people (good communication and samples of their work) and they were local, which helps if you are looking for someone who knows the local market.

Recently, I used elance for a flash project and really enjoyed my experience. Elance is great in that you can put your funds in escrow and they are not released until the job is done to your satisfaction. All communication is posted and kept on a private message board so there are no misunderstandings. They also have a mediation process.

I am currently using another site for a new project similar to elance called ifreelance. It also has the message board area, but does not have the escrow account. So far, so good. I have not used guru yet, but have heard good things about it as well. To use these services, you just need to do your research on the bidders, look at their portfolios and ratings and ask any questions before you make a decision. You can also invite providers that you like to bid on your project.

As to your question- The service provider I ended up selecting for my flash project happened to be from India. He was excellent and professional- The only thing was the time zone difference. You just need to know that it will take a little longer for a response.

Craigslist is good if you want to post and sit and wait.  Pad4pad.com allows you to be proactive for your lisitngs and search for individuals looking for what your clients have.  In addition, you can list for free if you invite 5 potential buyers to view your new listing.

Ifreelance is a scam if you are not working from India.  They bid for pennies on the dollar.  The funny part is many people end up paying more anyhow to rework the poor quality they get by saving a buck to up front by using India based companies.  But I am on the site for software development myself.  Just remember you really get what you pay for so saving a dolaar now could cost more in teh long run.

I have our listings posted on Craigslist but we have had nothing.  I will check out pad4pad.com.  We are always looking for new ways to market our properties.  We are looking for now business and that is a little harder to come by.  We have things in the pipeline for future business.

I know "The World Is Flat", but I will feed the pipeline here, instead of abroad.  It is my little way of saying:  "I know what the big boys are doing, and I don't like it!  I will circulate MY dollars right here in the good ol' United States of America, Thank you very much!

It's driven by the same principle as my boycotting veal, or not buying Exxon gas.  One little show of force.  If more of us made a stand, we'd have a bigger impact...
