“Route of the Hiawatha” opens May 26, 2012. This is one of the most unique bike trails in the country with over 37,000 visitors last year. This trail starts just past Lookout Pass in Montana and ends at the North Fork of the St. Joe River in Idaho. The trail has 10 tunnels and 7 trestles and the highest trestle is at 230 feet within the Loop Creek canyon.
The trail is considered the crown jewel of all the rail-to-trail projects in the country. The trail is 15 miles in length and is a gentle down hill grade for the entire trail. Bike riders of all abilities can manage from kids as young as 6 years old to seniors.
You will want to bring your camera as wildlife sightings of moose, elk, and deer are common not to mention the spectacular views. Pack a lunch and make a family day special. Bike rentals are available and there is a shuttle to bring you back to your car. For more information on bike rentals and shuttle prices go to www.ridethehiawatha.com
