What In The World Did CAPTCHA Say?

These CAPTCHA things are starting to get on my nerves! At first, they were legible and not a big issue; but now, they've  gotten to a whole other level.

For those of you that don't know what CAPTCHA is, it's a type of spam security system to prevent automated computers from sending you emails or spam posting on AR and other sites. CAPTCHA stands for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart". Developed by a team of geeks at the world famous Carneige Mellon University (Wikipedia source in case you wanted to know. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA).

So how is this used, well if you've ever used the email system on ActiveRain they you know what I'm talking about. Here is what it looks like:

It's pretty standard to have a CAPTCHA to prevent email-bot abuse. The text is supposed to be weird to prevent a computer from autofill it in; in short, it's a way to tell if you are a human.

But here's the problem: the CAPTCHA is now getting way out of hand... Check out this for example:

What did that say? Hold on let me get my glasses... oh wait, it's still blurry! Or how about this CAPTCHA...

LOL! 10 points if you can figure this out!!! OK... here's the last one that takes the cake:

What in the world does that say????

If you fail the first time, the second one is usually much easier.

They work.

This is an essential feature for systems with the volume that ActiveRain has.

Reuben -- I am with you on this. The other day I had to select a new captcha four times before I could decipher (barely) what it said!  I agree with the dog!

Now, every post must go through 'captcha'...

I don't drop staff in 'drop here' and I'm still able to post my comment. So what is the point of 'captcha' under each blog post?
