There are many reasons that I can think of, and here are five of them:

1.  Crofton townhouses appeal to young and old.

2.  There are more than 20 townhouse communities in Crofton.

3.  Crofton townhouses come in many price ranges.

4.  Crofton townhouses are close to schools and community amenities.  

5.  Fees for Homeowner Associations and Condo Associations are relatively low.

Ahhh, Gary - You must not have clicked through on the link for Top 3 Reasons Why You Should Purchase Your Next Home in Crofton, Maryland - "What are they near" is described in some detail.  I think it goes without saying that anything near Washington, D.C. has a great economy because the government is not going out of business any time soon - not to mention the 22,000 new jobs coming here due to BRAC 2005.  This is primarily a Localism post, targeted to homebuyers and not renters or investors, so I prefer not to expand the information in that direction beyond the link to It's Not Too Late to Invest in Crofton.

Peter, this house was my listing about 18 months ago, and I don't have any other townhouse photos that compare.  It has become my "official" Crofton townhouse photo!  It is located in Lake Louise, about a block from my office and just inside the main gates of Crofton, so it's a very approriate symbol of Crofton townhouses - as well as pretty.

Thesa, townhouse living is a lifestyle choice in this area.  I gather from incoming transferees that it's a financial step down in some parts of the country, but that's definately not the case here. 

Brian, Thank you, that means a lot coming from the reigning king of localism (at least in my book).  :)
