6 Comments on What is Memorial Day? - 2012 Memorial Day Tribute #1
Cathy, I remember long ago, when I was a little girl, my grandmother told me about "Decoration Day." She told me that it started during or right after the Civil War when the local folks chose to honor their fallen heroes by "decorating" their graves with flowers. It has since come to be known as Memorial Day.
It is great to honor these fallen men and women on Memorial Day, but even better to honor them year 'round. And by that, I mean both the dead, and the living... those currently serving... as well.
Cathy: Wow... that is powerful stuff. It certainly should cause us all to reflect on why we have a holiday this weekend and not take for granted our ability to enjoy it. Thank you so much for sharing- I will look forward to the next installments.
Cathy, we should never forget. Thanks for sharing this important message.
Good Morning Cathy, what a very nice blog reminding us what Memorial Day was started for and what it means. Have a great Friday
Cathy, thanks for sharing the great history lesson for the reason of a Memorial Day - the flower is poppy I guess. Happy Holiday.
Hi Cathy. Thanks for the history behind Memorial Day. San Antonio is truly a Military City. It is a Time to Remember! Will be looking for your other posts on this weekend's events.
