Once again the beginning of the New Year brings Pennsylvania's annual Farm Show at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, PA. It runs from January 5 - 12. It is an exciting event and has many agricultural exhibits, demonstrations, rodeo competitions, etc. and lots of good food.
This is a huge educational, annual event where up to 400,000 people attend. You can see around 8,000 animals, 10,000 competitive exhibits and 270 commercial exhibitors. Visitors can also sample the many delicious Pennsylvania foods.
Many of the youth participate in the agricultural contests and competitions. Yesterday, January 5, was the High School rodeo competition. Many High School girls and boys competed in calf roping, team calf roping, pole bending, barrel racing, bull riding, bronc riding and more. It was very exciting to watch. There was also a division for the juniors (Junior High and Middle School boys and girls).
During the week, there will be many other competitions, like tractor pulls for both youth and adults, square dancing, horseshoe toss, potato judging, dairy, goats, etc. They even have draft horses compete in the pulls to see which horse, or team of horses, are able to pull the heaviest load the furthest.
There are many, many events to see and you never get to see them all. Way too many to fit into a day's visit. For the schedule of events and more information click on Pennsylvania Farm Show There is something there for everyone to see and enjoy, and it is very educational. Some schools have allowed excused absences for students to attend the Farm Show.
If in the area, make sure you make some time during the week to see this exciting agricultural show. You will enjoy every moment.
Wow, does this bring back memories for me. I used to attend when I was a child.
