I was reading Kerrie's post about this month's Active Rain Contest. Echo Sign wants to know what we can't live without.....what exactly is indespensible in our business. I have two things that my business can't live without.
First, MY HOME OFFICE INTERNET. Our house got struck by lightning about 6 weeks ago and comcast came out to get the internet back up. Well the internet works in our basement, but that's as far as it will go. I'm not spending a lot of time talking on this one, but with no home internet....let's just say that Larry's Life sucks a little bit more than it should.
Secondly, AND SURPRISINGLY....FACEBOOK HAS BECOME MY NEW CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT FOR MY BUSINESS!!!
It just blows me away at how successful it is. I've received my 107th referral off of Active Rain this past week, but Facebook is gaining a lot of momentum in the referral business as well. I have over 3,000 "friends" (REALLY LARRY???? DEFINE FRIEND!) on Facebook. There is a big difference from "being on Facebook" and "Using Facebook."
If you are not USING FACEBOOK (again...I'm not talking about being "On Facebook"), then your business is missing out!!!!!! BIG TIME!!!!
First, Facebook is Free. Being on it means nothing. Using it means everything. Here's how and why I use it:
WHY???? Relationships and referrals. I am establishing relationships that I never would have had in days of yore. Cross town, cross state, or cross country or...even cross world. It's pretty hot. Relationships mean more referrals. All of these relationships either create referrals or they're bridges to new relationships that will create new referrals;
HOW?????? I have a specific plan in using Facebook. Personally, I throw out one comment or one topic, or just one self-depreciating comment a day. I just want my personality out there. I'm transparent, just like on Active Rain. My EVERYTHING is out there. People who like me bond with me. Those who don't? I really don't care...I won't want to work with their referrals probably. Brian Buffini says that jerks refer jerks. I want transparency so that jerks don't want to be my friend. Once a week, I throw a mortgage comment out there. No more than one. Then, I have a Facebook Fan Page for my business (check out https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Larry-Bettag-Illinois-Mortgage-Loan-Officer-Lender-and-Banker/280132776728). Once a week I throw up a comment about new legislation, good rates, changes in real estate or just some great success stories.
In any event, I joined Facebook after joining Active Rain. I worked Active Rain but didn't start working Facebook til last year. It's a staple that I can't live without and my business is GROWING BECAUSE OF IT!!!!
PROVE TO ME THAT FACEBOOK WORKS...SHOW ME THE MONEY JERRY MCGUIRE!
Two years ago I had $9,000 of documented income from Facebook. Last Year I had $36,000 worth of income. This year I'm already over $26,000 year to date and we're not even one-half way through the year.
