I'm slow to pick up on every new fad or trend and even the expression between people expressing their fault "MY BAD" I didn't understand it at first and still don't use it. Something that is DOPE which is cool well I must be the most uncool cause I think people are a dope who say that LOL. The latest is YOLO or You Only Live Once, and comes from hip hop and pop songs. UNFORTUNATELY a) people use it the wrong way (in my opinion) and b) they don't recognize it is nothing new.
The old Schlitz beer commercials used to say, "You only go round once in this life, so you have to grab for all the gusto you can get." But I was thinking....
Do YOLO In Your Life The Right Way
The old expression from Schlitz or the new YOLO, both make an excellent point. Life needs to be understood as precious and short. You know this with a dying loved one or dying pet. Life is extremely valuable with who you love.
The hip hop songs make the error in thinking grabbing the gusto is do that stupid stuff now, live it up, be quite selfish actually. But the NOBLE way to do YOLO "as a good person that you inherently are" is to do meaningful things that have impact. Living a life of significance and not stupidity. A life that matters. Leaving some kind of legacy in the hearts and minds of people that think about you after you are gone. Change the world, YES YOU, one person, one act at a time. Be profound, not a footnote in history, or worse yet embarrassing or FORGOTTEN.
We are like a Swiss Army knife in the world, etching our MARK on the world with many tools, many gifts we have been uniquely blessed with. Use those gifts WISELY.
You only live once. MAKE IT COUNT!!!

YOLO - Gary I had never thought of it like this. You always put things (life) into perspective my friend.
Gary thank you for sharing your thoughts on life in general. Yes I agree we should live life to its fullest and be happy as each day is not promised to us as there will be another on to enjoy. One day at a time Sweet Jesus one day at a time. I have never heard of YOLO before but do read the Great Book of Knowledge and it states something similar.... Have a blessed day and a great holiday weekend. Semper FI
Never heard that one before YOLO well see you learn something new everyday in the Rain !
Well, I am going bungee jumping this afternoon....perhaps once is enough!

Great post Gary!! I happen to know about the YOLO trend and I love the perspective you put on it!!
I try more and more everyday to remember we onlly live once and get doing some of the things I want to.
Gary-This time on earth is each of our individual lives. It is not a dress rehearsal. We don't get a do over. We have to make every day count. Our life is a gift we were given. What we do with that gift is up to us.
"Be profound, not a footnote in history, or worse yet embarrassing or FORGOTTEN." Wow! My sentiments exactly.
Now I have to think about what I can do more of to make my mark in the world.
You can't really say that to a person who lives in Sacramento, though. That's because the city right next to us in West Sacramento is located in Yolo County. Yuba City is in Yolo too. The city of Davis, where UC Davis is located, is in Yolo. Yolo has a whole different meaning here.
Cool post... Gary! I'm going to think about how I can YOLO this weekend ;)))
Great post. Let's make it count today, and every day.
Have an outstanding Memorial Day weekend, with your camera in hand.
I learn a lot from you Gary - today I learned YOLO. :-]
We should all chase your YOLO! You never know when life will pass you by
