Many honor different customs on Memorial Day. It’s always warmed my heart to see seas of people wearing red poppies over Memorial weekend honoring our service men and women.
In 1915, Moina Michael was inspired by the poem “In Flanders Fields” and replied with her own poem:
We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
She wanted to do something special and came up with the idea of wearing red poppies on Memorial Day in honor of those who died serving the nation during war. She was the first to wear one and sold poppies to her friends and co-workers donating the money to benefit servicemen in need.
Let’s keep that tradition alive...purchase and wear a red poppy for Memorial Day!!
