NYS Department of State - Bureau of Educational Standards
I just applied to the Department of State for permission to teach continuing education.
If this is something you'd also be interested in, you can go to their website: NYS Department of State - Division of Licensing Services and print an application.
The instructions read "in order to receive approval as an instructor, an individual must achieve 100 points in the system employed below." There are various sections from which you can choose the best way to reach those necessary points.
Formal training in the techniques of organizing and presenting instructional material, years licensed in real estate as a salesperson or broker, teaching experience, or a college/masters/law degree are all ways to earn points.
Enclose a resume and make sure it accurately reflects all the experience you've claimed. You will have to include school transcripts, a copy of your other teaching certificates, or employment verification on letterhead to substantiate the different positions you've held.
All this plus a check for $25.00 should be sent to the Bureau of Educational Standards/P.O. Box 22001/Albany, NY 12201-2001/phone - 518.486.3803/fax-518.408.2524.
It didn't take very long to hear back. Within 3 weeks, I had my Real Estate Instructor Approval letter.
