I got an email this morning from Mariana Wagner wondering if I could find out how many agents from her company Keller Williams were registered on ActiveRain.  I decided to run the same query and see what companies/franchises were adopting Web 2.0/social networking more.  Below are the results.

  1. RE/MAX (7,052)
  2. Keller Williams (5,772)
  3. Coldwell Banker (3,502)
  4. Century 21 (2,385)
  5. Prudential (2,230)
  6. GMAC (850)
  7. Exit Realty (767)
  8. Long and Foster (722)
  9. Weichert (717)
  10. Realty Executives (634)

Matt, Great Post.  Good information.  The read that the #1 real estate franchise for 2007 was RE/MAX!!  Lets Be Great in 2008!!

Thanks for the stats.  I was hoping to see The Michigan Group on the top 10, but hopefully 2008 will get us there.  Its what we do that's "right" that will count in the end.  Thanks again.  Lu

LOL @ Blog Boy (Broker Bryant)...

All laughing aside I am waiting to see what happens when NAR holds the next meeting at which time they will explore Blogging.

I am soooo looking forward to this. Unless of course I missed it but I doubt that :)

That list pretty much reflects the size of the major real estate companies in the nation. With 64,000 members, your stats reflect that most of AR numbers are not affiliated with a major company.

@ Wayne - Looking at how membership is broken down, of the 64,000 AR members, only around 35,000 appear to have themselves listed as "Real Estate Agents" -- the others are real estate related professionals.  Based on those numbers, it would seem that possibly more than half of AR members listed as RE Agents are affiliated not just with a major company, but one of the ten listed above.  (If I'm reading the membership data right?)

I guess another interesting stat would be to see how the above numbers translate as a percentage of total company agents, to even out the playing field between smaller companies and larger companies -- I think the results might be surprising.  We might even reshuffle the list as to which company is more active in proportion to company size.

Maybe a list I will work on . . . in my spare time. :-)

Thanks for the data Matt.  Pretty interesting.

What all the other companys need to think about is Gary Keller started  Keller Williams in a down market.
4:04pm • #18

It is somewhat surprising that ReMax is not way ahead of the pack in terms of numbers. With a huge group membership and very tech savvy bunch, I would think it they would be 2-1 over the next company.

Thanks for the great stats Matt! I wonder if there is a direct correlation in the number of AR members and overall agents that the company has nation or world wide... That would be an interesting breakdown although I am certain incredibly time consuming!

I love stats like this. Though I'm not affiliated with a large brokerage, I find it interesting how many are. I like that Gary Keller started the company in a down market. That's a huge incentive for those of us breaking out on our own don't you think?

I do training classes in Long & Foster offices on "Building a Web Presence" and ActiveRain is included in every class I've ever taught.  I start by asking how many agents have heard of it.  The numbers are tiny.  I then show them the AR website, how it works, why it works, what the benefits are and how it can be an important part of building an overall web presence.  Of the hundreds of agents I have presented to, only a very small number have ever actually become part of this community. In big companies, it's not easy to communicate effectively to every single agent.  I have two classes coming up in Maryland, one in Virginia and one in Pennsylvania in the next two weeks and I will continue to spread the word.  I believe there is real value here.

Interesting stats, Matt. That means 6% of ALL RE/MAX agents worldwide. The number would be even higher for just US and Canada but don't have those numbers for RE/MAX. Interesting, but not surprising, given NAR says only 4% of agents are blogging.

Interesting!

ReMax and KW being up top shows that Web 2.0 is really a part of their corporate culture, and at the heart of their training.

Most likely would not have known about AR, or other social networking opportunities, had I not moved from C21 a year ago.  Not putting anyone down, it just was not as much as a priority.

Hi Matt:  Your statistics show a very interesting picture.  I think it still rests very much on the individual managers of each office.  I know several larger offices in Fort Worth where they do not even have one person on active rain.

Hmmmm....Long and Foster only operates in 7 States and DC. The rain has 50 states and DC and canada. 52 divided by 8 multiplied by 722 equals 4,693. Using this logic, I may have a new career waiting in the broker spin zone.

What can I say?  It does indeed make me proud whenever I see the balloon at the top of something.  And KW in second place.  Both of whom are companies that embrace technology and change openly and throughout their cultures.  Of course, statistics can say whatever you want them to say. =)

Re/Max doesn't have a lot of market share in Fairfield County, but when I decided to sell my parent's home in Connecticut I found out the best agent was a Re/Max agent and gave up my referral fee to go with the best agent.  He did a great job and I referred him to my best friend who was selling her parent's home two doors away.
