I am one of those people that rarely takes anytime off.  My phone is on all the time, and I answer it and return phone calls no matter what time, or  day of the week it is.  Vacations are not something that I do very often, and in the past when I have gone away on a vacation, I continued to carry on my business from where ever I happen to be. However, this year my oldest son, Matthew joined my team at McCue Mortgage, and he has been a bigger blessing than I had anticipated.

Earlier this month I was able to take a much needed vacation, even though it was for only a week, it was good to just get away. My wife and I went to Chicago to spend some time with friends that were flying in from California.  I had been to Chicago many times before, but always on business, so I never got to enjoy much of this beautiful city.

We got to take a bus tour of Chicago and see parts of Chicago that I would have never seen otherwise. Chicago is truly the city of very tall buildings as you can see from the picture above.  My favorite part was stopping at Wrigly Field, home of the Cubies, and actually getting to see this historic park in person.  I also got to go back to the Great Lakes Naval Training Camp which I did my Boot Camp at in 1970.  While there we got to see a graduation ceremony, and that sure brought back some old memories.  One of our other stops on the city bus tour was Miiennium Park, and that is a must see.

The picture to the right is of the Realtor Building that is right on Michigan Avenue.  Realtors must have money in Chicago :)  And right across from the Realtor Building was the statue of Marylin Monroe,  Im sorry but I had to do a guy thing :)

In the past as I mentioned before, I would have continued to do business, much like I was still here, but this time even though I still maintained contact with my Borrowers, when something needed to be taken care of Matthew took over.  Prior to this I have not trusted anyone with my business, but because Matthew is my son it was almost like he was a natural extension of me, and I had no problem letting go.

The last time I had taken what I called a vacation, I got a lot of teasing from the group that my wife and I were with.  I was constantly on the phone, or up in the hotel room taken care of something for one of my Borrowers, or a Realtor Partners.  This time the phone was still with me, but it rang much less, because most knew to call Matthew.  When they did call me I would answer the questions, but if something needed to be done Matthew took care of it.

Who knows maybe the next vacation I will leave the phone and laptop behind, and let Matthew take care of everything ......... well maybe in a few more years ......... LOL.

George, what a gift! Not only did you get to take a vacation, you have your son working with you, and it is all good! That is wonderful. My grandson says he wants to work with me, but he is just a bit too young, although he would love to answer my phone for me.... maybe in few more years...

George

How fortunate you are to have your son involved in the business, not only to help cover for you while vacationing but just to have the chance to work with him and him with you!
