Carbonite Cloud Backup – Don’t buy it if you want Support
Like all things in life, we like them when the work. Technology will have glitches. I get that. I accept that. What I do not understand, or accept, are companies like Carbonite, who sell a mission critical service and fail to support it.
I bought Carbonite Premium service which provides cloud backup of data files as well as a Mirror Image backup of my PC. In the five short months I have been using Carbonite, I have had several issues with the service not working properly. Calls to tech support resolved the issues, temporarily.
I cannot trust Carbonite. I did and it failed. Now, I wait, and wait, and wait for Level 3 support to call me to resolve the issue.
The one predictable thing I know about Carbonite is that the company does not provide support when their own backup service fails. It’s been six days since I filed a trouble ticket. I have had one 30 minute call with tech support who took remote access to my PC in an attempt to resolve the issues all to no avail. Tech support downloaded a bunch of files from my PC and promised I would get a call within 48 hours.
I called today to follow up and all I got were apologies. I called for support which Carbonite clearly does not offer on their service. Before you buy Carbonite, or any other service, ask about their service level agreement. If they don't have one, that means they have zero confidence in the service they sell. Don't let the marketing fool you!
I now need to find a cloud service that works and that is timely supported if it fails. I am running a business and cannot afford to wait for Carbonite.
