Carbonite Cloud Backup – Don’t buy it if you want Support

Sorry to hear about your lack of customer service. I was considering Carbonite, but sounds like there are other / better choices. I think even the virus software companies like Avast, etc offer back up to cloud these days. I also partioned my hard drive, so I have two copies of everything. I did have an external hard drive as well, but haven't been using it since partioning my hard drive. I still would like another back up though. Since gmail offers so much free storage witht heir email accounts, I have everyhing go there first, then it is set to forward a copy to my verizon account who is where I get internet service from.

Kathleen, I too have bought Carbonite but so far have not had to use it. Maybe I will not consider buying their service again next year. I hear so many good things about the Mac, that may be my next upgrade. Hope it all works out for you, best of luck,

Kathleen,  I have been using Carbonite for years.  Had one major crash and was lucky (from the sound of your post) that I was able to retrieve everything but one email.   Linda # 37 mentioned ibackup.com.  Am going to look into that too.  Best of luck to you.

I believe that sometimes when there are updates providers don't always have it fgured our. hen there are issues. Bought a 2 terabyte backup drive for about $100. My system is back up weekly. No tech support time there.

Kathleen - This is the second person I've seen have major issues with Carbonite.  The other person had the whole computer crash and only received back some of their supposedly backed up files.

Gald to see you taking the time to shed a public light on this company.  No better place to review than online.  

Opinions like this are super valuable! Is there a business/service "rating or review" page on AR? It would be helpful to get consensus on services for R/E; especially LEAD providers!

Kathleen~ I read through most of the comments.  Did you come across a better back up plan?  I noticed one suggestion, but it's something I've never heard of before.  

I am amazed at folks that buy these things and never know whether they work or not. I was paying $39. a month for a service contract one time that just collected the money and I never had a need until one day after 2 year of use I called them and they were into another business and had long sold that one but was still debiting my card.

I don't sign or pay for anything that is not apple driven or microsoft, stick with folks that everyone else copied is my advise.

Kathleen, I switched from Carbonite to CrashPlan Pro.  It's more expensive, but I get a live person and they can restore all my files much faster.  Carbonite is very slow and there is no one there on weekends.
