make-up

at what age should you let your daughter wear make-up.  I have been having this argument with some of my friends. I feel a young girl should be aloud to wear make-up at the age of 13 or 14 depending on their maturity. There should be supervision when putting it on until they learn to apply it without looking like a clown.  Light and soft colors should be worn. Lightly colored lipgloss should only be used.

Young girls should be able to experiment with make-up.  They see commercials on TV and they usually sit and watch their mother apply it.  If they are taught on how much to use and what colors to use,  I see no problem with it.

I was 13 when I starting to experiment with make-up it lasted about a month and then I was done with that notation.

any suggestions on what to tell a friend about her daughters.  She is insisting her 14 year old daughter is wearing too much. I disagree..

Valerie,

In my experience (3 daughters) if you don't make a big issue over it is usually a fad that they get out of their system. They eventually realize its not good to look like a clown.    Gaye

Valerie, being a father of a nine year old girl who believes she is twenty, I have to agree with your comment on age and make-up. I myself am not a big fan of make-up , I believe it hides a woman's natural beauty. I also feel it does something to the skin. Being that I'm probably going to give in , I guess  thirteen is a good age. Maybe I'll be too old to realize.-Frank Giunto-touchofthebrush@msn.com

HI Valerie,

my daughter is 12 sometimes she puts on a little eye liner but thats it. I really haven't even had to limit it and she does a nice lite job putting it on. I guess because I'm not a big makeup wearer myself and liner is pretty much all that her friends wear so she doesn't really feel like shes missing out on anything. You know what I mean?
