6 Comments on States with the strongest home inspection regulation laws
Mine is Georgia and it did not make the list. Mabyw we need to make some changes here.
New Jersey was next to impossible to get licensed a few years ago (I know, I tried). I went through 300 hrs of training, passed the state exam, but then needed to complete 50 training inspections with a licensed inspector as a mentor to be followed by being hired by a licensed inspector and complete another 100 paid inspections as an associate inspector. The problem was, very few licensed inspectors were willing to help "train" their possible future competition. Very few who went through the training program actually were able to fulfill those requirements, with the exception being those who had a relative or close friend licensed and willing to do the mentoring. The regulations have since changed (with ASHI fighting the change with paid lobbyists). The new regs require 160hrs classroom time, state exam and 50 hrs of mentored training to be provided by the school. Certainly far more reasonable regulations and very attainable.
Jim- wow!! I believe it should be tough to obtain a license to handle a real estate transaction (inspection, sales, etc.). Here is Massachusetts, it is very easy to get a real estate sales license- only 24 hours of schooling. I wish it was much tougher in order to have properly trained, profesional, ethical people in the career! However, it sounds like in your situation it went far beyond reason.
