Since Houston is noted for its long and HOT mosquito season most of you will find these tips invaluable.  Those pesky critters are plentiful and hungry this year so you need every trick you can find to keep them at bay.  Our friend Rebecca has several suggestions.  I knew about the Listerine and it does work pretty well but I think we're gonna try some of the others too!!

mosquitoWe have had a lot of rain this Spring which means .... mosquitoes will be rampant this year.

Did you know that the female mosquito is the one that bites. They are attracted to the carbon dioxide, warmth, moisture and body odor emitted by humans or animals. The female mosquito bites because she needs blood in order to lay eggs. Mosquito bites are itchy and uncomfortable. They may also carry the West Nile Virus.

Lets protect ourselves, our children and pets from these pesky mosquitoes.  There are many mosquito repellents on the market.  To help rid or keep the mosquitoes away try some of these helpful tips:

Short term effects:
Use Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent - Put some water in a white dinner plate and add a couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent.  Set the dish on your porch, patio, or other outdoor area.

Listerine - Using a spray bottle, add Listerine.  Spray yourself, your deck and your yard.  Use the spray inside a dog house or on the dog's bedding.  Mosquitoes should be repelled for a few days.

The two above products may help temporarily, but try this all natural spray....  Mosquito Barrier.   It is a very strong liquid garlic made from very potent garlic cloves.  Just one spraying of all natural, liquid garlic-based Mosquito Barrier will keep mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, gnats, fire ants out of your yard and away from your home, 24 hours a day for nearly a month.

If you know of other products that would help keep mosquitoes away, please add in the comments.

Great repost Jeanne and Ralph,

The mosquitos are already out up here in the Dallas area...a very wet spring has (unfortunately) made them abundant...

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!

Thanks for the reblog. I was almost ready to swat the mosquito in the image. The Listerine solution is a new one for me.
