We Get Conflicting Reports

As I was reading along a few days there was a report that we are at a 15 year low in home ownership. Wow, that does not sound good at all. Even with the increase in sales all across the nation we are still at the lowest level in 15 years. Then today I find in the local paper, Apartments Push Home Building to a four Year High yet in the article they state we are 14 percent below the previous year. What? We are 14 percent below and we are at a 4 year high.

So why are our clients unsure about what is happening in the market? Well it may have to do with a confusing media giving a spin to what is happening. We are better at interpreting the raw data ourselves. We cannot do worse.

I think so much of it has to do with the Consumer Confidence level.  People are afraid to buy... not quite ready to make that leap of faith, yet.  Until the media quits painting the entire country with negative reports that only apply to certain concentrated areas, the overall market will not improve as it should.

What do we need to do ?  That's easy.  Write out own local reports, and then publicize them.

What you also might do, depending on your market, is to contact your local radio and TV stations, and offer to share your report, or be interviewed by them on radio or TV. 

They often have local spots or time they need to fill, and if you have any sort of media "presence" about you... they just might put you on the air.  Are you brave enough ?   LOL.

Data can be spun in different directions, that's for sure. Posting on an extremely local basis is often the most helpful to the public.

The media is like the person that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing...  To write in an article that this year is below last year AND this year is an all time high makes no sense whatsoever!  Sheesh!

Mark -- it seems everyday we see/hear of a real estate report that contradicts the previous day's report.   It's cliche but true that all real estate is local and actually more hyper-local.  Prices, desirability can vary street-by-street and many factors come into play.   I agree with Karen Anne --- we can give our perspective of our little corner of the world and hope the right people(our audience) are reading/listening.
