San Antonio's Mayor Castro Defends Our City Against Charles Barkley's Jokes

San Antonio's Mayor Julian Castro performed in a video defending our fair city against the baseless jokes and putdowns of Charles Barkley, the NBA analyst on the TNT network. Barkley, a former player and great jokster who, takes great delight in making fun of the Alamo City and our lack of sophistication.

Someone wrote a great script for the mayor who responded to Charles' recent comments about San Antonio. Nice job Mayor Castro, in answering the Round Mound of Rebound as Barkley was once known.


Barkley was a great player and a really funny guy. His jokes about San Antonio are moderately funny. Although he is not mean-spirited, if you are the least bit sensitive about the fact that our city is not as cosmopolitan as say Los Angeles, New York, or even Fort Worth, you might take offense.

Wayne:  Whoa !  Wait a minute !  What a great video.  Your Mayor Castro has another career waiting for him if he ever ends up leaving politics.  Mayor Castro looks like he has been "on camera" for many years.  His video showed he has a great "on air" personality.  Very, very nice.  Charles... if he can put down his burritos... needs to take notes.

Go Spurs !  Your mayor needs one more ring for his thumb !

Good Morning, Wayne. Mayor Castro was Great in this video presentation for Mr. Barkley. I heard Sir Charles jokes last night about our Lovely City, and I proud to see our Major take a Shot at Charles. Especially that remark about us having 4 Championship rings, and Charles has How Many?

Jerry-I'm glad he responded with humor rather than getting into a big snit. Counter humor with humor. One of the great signs I saw at the game last night said something along the lines of "Charles can't handle Alamo City Thickness"

Hi Wayne - I love this video, and I love your mayor.  This is a great way to respond to any detractors, even if the Barkley comments were made in jest.

San Antonio is beautiful and I look forward to seeing the extended portion of the RiverWalk, which was already gorgeous.

Susan-San Antonio has many pluses and I really love it here. Not as picturesque as many other places in the world, but it is a great place for me. Charles is right about one thing though. To call the downtown section a river is really stretching the point. But its all we have so we call it a river. Thanks for commenting.

Barkley made numerous comments about OKC when we were trying to get the Thunder and after we got the Thunder! He is completely clueless and uses stereo-types for his 'jokes'. I guess stereo typing is okay as long as you are a minority like Mr Barkley.
