It's winter-time on Panama City Beach, FL.  This past week there was a "hard freeze" in our area.  Nighttime temps were in the 20s-30s.  Daytime temperatures in the mid-40 degree range.

I know ... you all want to post beautiful bright snow pictures right now, don't you?  If only you could somehow make those photos chill me to the bone!  I really do appreciate living on the coast of NW Florida!

My parents live in a condo on Panama City Beach.  They retired and decided to live there more than 20 years ago ... they have owned a unit in the same complex for about 30 years.  Last week as I entered the elevator in this condo complex, a couple of ladies were getting in the elevator with a cart loaded with luggage and groceries. They had just arrived ... snowbirds... I asked where they live.  "Chicago."  I joked that they had brought this cold weather with them.  Without a trace of a smile, one of the ladies said, "You have no idea what cold is."

I laughed and agreed with her.  I've never been to Chicago, but I hear they have their own brand of cold there.  As they exited the elevator, I wished her a good vacation and said, "Enjoy the warm weather!"  Even though it has been cold by NW Florida standards, we still have gorgeous sunsets on "the world's most beautiful beaches."

While I was visiting my parents last week, I decided to "document" the winter sunset (which I think is more beautiful than summer sunsets).  I've made a photo show from the pictures I took of this sunset from their 13th floor balcony.  Click on the link here if you would like to watch.  Enjoy!

Jan, I'm glad the yearly migration of snow birds has started. It's nice to look at a sunset without ice.

Gary:  Thanks, come on down ... we have plenty of sunshine to go with those sunsets.  Visit us anytime!

Jan-You really have some beautiful pictures.  This one is just breathtaking.  We've had our share of cold these days, but I've lived in Utah my entire life, so I'm completely used to it.  Enjoy your Florida weather and don't get too cold.

Hi Jan:  Yeah, wintertime, I hear ya.  It's wintertime here in Fort Worth, too.  Seventy nine degrees yesterday, and then today the temperature plummeted all the way down to seventy-seven.  But, don't get jealous so quickly... the weather forecast calls for temperatures in the sixties by the weekend.  I need to try and find my snow tires. <grin>

Jan, your picture is absolutely gorgeous.  It's one good thing about sunsets in Florida... that the sun will always rise just as beautirully the next day.  Jan, thanks for sharing.

HI, Julie,

Thank you.  I'm glad you liked the picture.  I've never had the opportunity to visit Utah.  One thing that AR has made me aware of is how limited my travel experiences have been within the states.  I've been to a lot of the big convention cities ... I've been to England and Scotland... but there are so many places I would rather visit .... just normal cities and towns where people live out their every day lives.  That is so much more interesting to me than all the tourist "stuff."

Karen Anne:  You Texans have it so good, don't you?  I know that's God's country out west!  Don't know too much about those sunrises... Like you, I'm a night owl unless I can't sleep ... like this morning!

Jan:  What a beautiful way to start off my Monday!  I love Florida and I am so envious of your mom and dad!  I have been thinking about a condo myself in the Destin area.  We had snow here in Blue Ridge last weekend, down to 10 at one point.  But it is supposed to be 70 today!!!  With an ocean sunset like that to look at, who cares how cold it gets, right?!

01/07/2008 06:20 AM by Donna Yates, Georgia Realtor North Georgia Blue Ridge Real Estate (Mountain Investments of North Georgia)

Hi, Donna:  You're right... from inside the condo, it doesn't matter how cold or hot the temperature gets!  The view is ever beautiful and ever changing, and yet somehow always the same ... constant reminder of how amazing the world really is and how quickly things can change in life.

When you get ready for that FL condo (Destin or anywhere on the Gulf Coast) please let me know.  I would love to meet you when ever you come to the beach.

Hello Jan,
A beautiful sunset.  The north has been sharing their "cold weather" with us too.  Our average lows for January is 34 degrees, we had 2 mornings last week in the mid teens.  Brrrrrrr!  Good news is we bounced back and yesterday our high was near 70 and promises to stay there for a few days.

That is a beautiful sunset Jan! I get to enjoy those about twice a year when I visit Florida to show my horses.

Hi, Cynthia:  Glad your mild weather has returned .. NC is so beautiful anytime of the year.

Lisa:  Thank you.  When you come to FL, where do you show?  If you are ever on the NW Coast of FL, anywhere between Tallahassee and Pensacola, please let me know.  I would love to meet you in person.

Elizabeth:  Yes, you are so right... only God can paint a sky like this one.  Have a blessed day!

Jan, I recently commented on a post by a visit to Southern California by somebody from Michigan. She mentioned that she left 20 degree weather behind to find 60 degree weather here. I told her that we think of temperatures in the 60s as COLD. I guess we're spoiled. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hi, Bill,

I heard that y'all (Southern English) were a little bit spoiled out there in CA, but I didn't want to say anything about it :) ... Hope you are enjoying a good start to the new year.  Thanks for coming over to read and comment on the FL sunset.

Pretty sunset shot, Jan. I must say it's the first time I can remember seeing a show that is many repetitions of nearly the same photo. I was more impressed by the single photo shot than the repetitious slide show.

01/10/2008 07:23 PM by Sharon Simms St Pete Florida CRS CIPS CLHMS (RE/MAX Metro)

Sharon:

How sweet of you to make such a positive and supportive comment on my post.  I must say that you surely do not watch many sunsets! The sun moves very slowly over a period of time and the repetitiveness of the photos that you observed in the photo show is a result of the time lapse of the shots I took as the sun was setting.  A very careful eye will observe changes in the photos as the sun is slowly setting.

You can advance rapidly through a real estate career, but you cannot rush the timeless work of God.  Take a break and watch a few sunsets when you have the chance.  Have a blessed and happy 2008.

Jan E:   Oh, Jan, you are so lucky to live in Florida.  When our winters start here, I long to be living on the beach watching these beautiful sunsets.

I love the photo show that you created... Wow, 31 different shots.  Great time lapse... what I liked about your photo show is that you can also look at the slides and see the sun set.  Absolutely beautiful... and I have an affinity for your choice of music... Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.  Great job, gal.
