The Cost of War

By

This is the item from the news:

"A staggering 45 percent of the 1.6 million veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are now seeking compensation for injuries they say are service-related. That is more than double the estimate of 21 percent who filed such claims after the Gulf War in the early 1990s, top government officials told The Associated Press. "

Many of the veterans are claiming 8 to 10 ailments while Viet Nam vets average four and those who served in WWII and Korea, just two.

I think the reasons are that this war is being waged in a far different way than the first two.   And, it is hard for me to comprehend that given what our troops were subjected to in VietNam that the claims are only four.

Nevertheless, it is difficult for not only the veterans, but their families and friends, too.

As General MacArthur said, "War is hell."   And, it doesn't get any easier the more advanced our weapons.

I think America is tired of waging war, at least I hope so.

Let us remember our fallen, those serving and all the families and loved ones of our service people today.

We lost fewer lives but had lots of casualties that we need to pay for and keep the military healthy.

I think that since life has gotten more complicated and weapons more advanced than before, that may explain the jump in the number of ailments that they claim.  And--it could be that there are just more diagnoses today than back then as well. :)

I agree with Jennifer.  But, I can't imagine trying to stay alive let alone sleep in a war zone,

Dom,

I hope we are tired, and my wish is that we enlist all the brilliant minds globally to find a way to work it out without war being waged. A

Better to bring them home alive and make claims for injuries than have hem die during the battles.  The brave that died in the previous wars never had an opportunity to make a claim for injuries.  Lets support our brave protectors

I also agree with Suzanne and Jennifer. I think the types of weapons we have today lead to new types of illnesses we don't think about.

I read that article yesterday and that number is staggering.  When the war ends (I pray soon) those brave soldiers will still be battling for a semi-normal life.  I don't know what the answer is but I do know they are paying too high a price for it.  There has got to be a better way.

Wow.  This is amazing.  Nearly everyone here would like to see the soldiers come home and be healed.  This is a great place.

"War is Hell " for sure but we could have fought this war with just drones but regardless we try to be to polictical correct, level the place and come home. Yes War is Hell but not knowing if you won or not is worse.
