Have you heard Toby Keith's song, "I Wanna Talk About Me?" Last year, when I first started teaching real estate classes, that was our theme song one day. I wanted to the students to realize that Realtor's need to listen to their clients. Their clients should be number one.
As Toby sings, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYrlzEUuBIM )
"I like talking about you, you, you, you, usually, but occasionally
I wanna talk about me
Wanna talk about I
Wanna talk about number one
What I think, what I like, what I want, what I see.
I want to talk about me
Me, me, me, me
Then, a few days ago, Elizabeth Nieves memed me. Ironically, I found myself saying, NO!!!, I don't want to talk about me, I want to talk about you. "You, you, you, I want to talk about you.
Well.........I've got a confession. I've already been talking about you. Yep. I have. On Friday night while sitting in a hot tub for several hours. Even though my friend wasn't a Realtor, I talked about Active Rain and tried to explain blogging. I told my friend about the Christianity and Real Estate Group and about Elizabeth. (I was trying to think of something other than horses to talk about. My kids complain I spend too much time talking about horses.)
Since a meme is supposed to be about me, I think I may have figured out how to pull this off, but with a twist. I'll tell you about a few people that I talked about while in the hot tub. As I've been reflecting on the new year and last year, these people help me define, who I want "me" to be more like. Of the AR people, I'm only going to tell you about Elizabeth since she is the one that meme'd me.
1) First, I'll explain why Elizabeth, has been in my thoughts a lot lately. If you have read any of her posts, you are already aware that she is an extremely talented writer and an amazing woman that has overcome some tremendous trials. Although I could write a long essay about how great I think she is, I'll summarize by saying that she is one of the most warm and loving people that I have ever encountered. Max Lucado, in his book, A Love Worth Giving states, "Many people tell us to love. Only God gives us the power to do so." Using Max's words again, it is very evident that Elizabeth is ‘living in the overflow of God's love." She is sharing it just the way the Lord wants us to. I want to be more loving like Elizabeth. If you haven't read her posts - please do so. http://activerain.com/blogs/enieves
2) While sitting in that hot tub, I mentioned my Dad multiple times. He knows the value of family, friendships, hard work, fun and traditions. He is a perfectionist that instilled the importance of paying attention to detail and doing a job right. I want to be more like him.
3) I also talked about soy milk, the greatest discovery that I've made recently. Unfortunately, I can't talk or think about soy milk without thinking of my friend Jon Swanson. When Jon was in college, he had a ski accident that left him partially paralyzed and in a coma for two weeks. Doctors did not think he could finish college or ever walk without a limp. With God's help he proved them wrong. He went on earned a Ph.D and has ran numerous marathons. He is the best runner that I know. He is the pastor at a Presbyterian Church in Gatesville, TX. He also teaches college classes at Baylor. Jon, just being Jon, has always made me realize that I'm not utilizing my full potential. He motivates me to push myself and try harder. Plus, look what he has overcome. He is a survivor and has dedicated his life to the Lord. (http://www.fpcgatesville.org/pastor.html )
•4) I also talked about Manhattan Beach, CA. Back when I was a Certified Public Accountant, I attended an accounting conference there. Not only did I fall in love with the place, I discovered my creative side. Two years ago, here in College Station, TX, I found a print of Manhattan Beach that was painted by Benjamin Knox - who I considered to be "our Aggie artist." Not only was I thrilled find the print, I decided that Benjamin is an impressive individual. As a painter, he has captured the spirit of Texas A&M University very well. He gives back to the community-with his time and donations. He has successfully combined his passions for sports and painting into some thing that is profitable. He takes time to explore his other creative interests. He is an architect, he plays the piano and he plans to write a book. I find him motivational because he lives life to the fullest while still helping others whenever possible. (http://www.benjaminknox.com/Detail.asp?id=151&pid=artwork )
5) When I was teaching last spring, one of the test questions was, "What was our theme song." Every student that was class that day, got the question right on the exam. It was Toby Keith, "I Wanna Talk About Me." Our clients want us to listen to them. They want to tell us what they think, what they want, what they like, what they feel.
Whew, I finally managed to get my 5 things. Now it is my turn to tag three people.
Hugh Krone, I'm fairly certain that you have't been memed since I've been a member. I'm quite curious what you would have to say in a meme. (http://activerain.com/blogs/thebaldman) By the way, I hope you know that I think the world of you.
Debbie DiFonzo, who is part of my United Country family: http://activerain.com/blogs/missouriagent whom I have recently been blessed to meet. I am glad she found me.
Robert Brown (http://activerain.com/blogs/mrbrown ) whom I just met this year. Robert, I'm looking forward to reading more of your posts.
