Washington Association of Realtors "Hill Day"

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Northwest Realtors, Inc. 425-308-3669

As President of the Snohomish County Camano Association of Realtors, I'll be in Olympia, WA, the State Capital, on Wednesday, January 17.  This is Washington REALTORS®' Legislative Day, when hundreds of REALTORS® will converge on the Capitol grounds in Olympia to discuss ways to improve housing opportunities with their legislators.

We have been very effective in the past, i.e., last year we defeated the raise in the State Excise tax that would have raised a tax that sellers pay at closing and is eventually passed down to the buyer.  We were also successful in (temporarily) stopping the "Big Grab", preventing banks from entering the real estate market and creating a monopoly for the buyers.

Our mission is to provide you the opportunity of the "American Dream", home ownership.  And a goal for our local association is to try to provide ways of affordable housing for our teachers, firefighters, law enforcement, so they can afford to live in the neighborhoods that they work in.

If you have any concerns you would like discussed while I am on The Hill, please email me at,

Good job Karen.

We have a "Hill day" in Tennessee too; ours is mid March this year.

We've been pretty successful in getting what we needed passed and preventing harmful legislation.

Some of our milestones were:

  • After the fact referral fee laws; strongest in the country
  • Stopped an additional property transfer tax
  • Getting our home inspectors licensed.
  • Predatory lending controlled

Good for you for stepping up to the plate and accepting a leadership position in your association.

I wish all NAR members could realize that WE are NAR, TAR, WAR, and all the rest of the "ARs" instead of whining or complaining.

Our associations of Realtors; national, state, and local, are what we make them or what we let them become.
