The Pottstown Memorial Day parade began at 10 a.m. yesterday at Goodwill Fire Company . It was organized by VFW Post 780. Many veterans participated in the parade, which continued down High Street amidst the rows of residents lined up on the curbs waving flags and applauding. It continued down to the Vietnam Veterans monument in Memorial Park at the end of King Street.
There was a ceremony at the monument that included a short speech from Severin Fayerman, a survivor of the Auschwitz, Buchenwald, and Sachsenhausen concentration camps. Severin went on to become the owner of Baldwin Hardware in Reading.
The enthusiasm and patriotism that was in the air was all consuming. Pottstown recognizes it's veterans- loves and values them, as we all should across America!
