Free compost?!?  What a great deal!  I wish they would offer that in the KC area!

It sure doesn't make sense to throw away yard clippings, and clog drains with tons of kitchen garbage, then go out and pay $$$$ for compost! I'm glad recycling programs in our area have made huge headway. Free compost is one of the many benefits!

Lottie - I certainly believe in recycling (and not just for compost ie garage sales) it's a great way to get the most out of anything we make or produce but compost is not free unless we do it ourselves it cost money to operate the recycling programs and you pay for it in your tax bill.

Hi Kathy, you're right about composting costing money unless one does it oneself. However, in our built-up suburban area, where lots can be 5,000 sq.ft. or less, and in the cities where many live in highrises, having a service like Recology, which bundles garbage pick up, recycling and kitchen waste services, it makes great sense. San Francisco is one of the 'greenest' cities around.
