Did you know this week is National Hurricane Preparedness Week? Neither did I - until today. I came across a small blip about it on my local government website. Hurricanes are a serious natural disaster. You should have a plan in place for your family, and should be aware of the emergency plans in your area. Preparedness can help you avoid a lot of the disaster that comes with a hurricane. Here in Connecticut, people don’t think about hurricanes too often – mostly because we are rarely affected by them. However, last year we were hit by Hurricane Irene (otherwise known at Tropical Storm Irene depending on where you were when it arrived).

Hurricane season officially starts this Friday, June 1st. If you live in an area that has ever been hit by a hurricane, you should at least take a look at this website: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/prepare/  Because it is National Hurricane Preparedness Week, the National Weather Service National Hurricane Center has a launched a series of PSA videos that offer tips and insights to help you get prepared for hurricane season. You never know, the information may come in handy!
