I just wondered this about myself tonight...I know why I'm here. I raised 3 wonderful children and loved every minute of it.

But I also wondered something else...am I working to exist...working to pay bills or do I really have a purpose in life.  Am I existing to work, am I here for a reason, where is that person that I am here to help?

I have worked the medical field, I now love the Real Estate arena...but (deep thinking now)...why did I change my path, why am I selling real estate...why did I change career's when I did?

Who are the special people that I have met and helped list/sell, buy a property...why me? why now?

Is this G*d's plan for me? Did I change career's for someone special?

Do you work just so you can survive? Do you love your career? Is it a job or is it something you enjoy?

Medicine to me was a job. Real Estate is a passion that I enjoy...

What are your thoughts?

Unfortunately right now I am working to exist.  I would love to work to play and enjoy life a lot more.

Kudos to you for raising 3 kids. I have never thought about this before, but I'm going to now.  I'll have to let you know later what I think about myself.

At the end of the day, if you're not having fun then what's the point? I also chose real estate after working in another profession. I love that I have the ability to meet so many different people and actually have the luxury of choosing to invest in client relationships -  previous career was assigned clients. This is definitely my profession, not just a job and while I don't look to work for free at any time, it's not about the money it's about the client's home and meeting their needs.
Best wishes for a great 2008!

You most enjoy what you do.  And if you do it won't seem like work.  After so time you'll look back and wonder where the time went.  95% of all realtors come from other professions in which we dislike the previous position. Go figure!

Little of both for me.  Work at the paper stuff that's not always my favorite, work at the website stuff which is lots of fun.  Just doing what I've gotta do!  : )

Chris,

Me too, I hate paperwork and I really need a secretary to organize my paperwork, that's the only thing I miss about my previous job, those executive secretaries!  Mine was the best!

Thanks for posting!

I really do love being in Real Estate!  What bothers me most is the people who don't like being a REALTOR, yet hang on with their BA (bad attitude) At first I got into it to make money, and found out I enjoy the career more than the money part.

Dick,

I love it as well. That bother's me too...however, they seem to be dropping like flies...

I went to do a showing at one of my properties today...had two other owners grab me at the door, one to do a listing of the best unit in the building and one to do a rental...they both said, Geeze, you guys used to be a dime a dozen and now you cannot find any of you!!! I said, "Here are a pile of my business cards, feel free to hand them out!"  The both took (about 10 each) some, and I am going back Friday to get the listings!  Amazing isn't it...those of us who work...I love what I do as well...

Thanks for posting!  Karen

Karen, I was working as a management consultant for Fortune 500 companies when I made my switch into semi-retirement as a real estate agent.  I did it so I could stay local and focus on my community, where I run a non-profit organization.  I had no idea I'd enjoy real estate as much as I do, but this is an intense business where you become very involved in people's lives for a short period of time and you really can make a difference.  It is the way I make a living, but the money just comes.  It is a by-product, not my focus.  My focus is on my clients and the satisfaction that comes from doing my job really well.  This is a great business for those who have the right personality and fit for it.  I lucked into this profession and am so glad I did.

Gail,

So well said! We do definitely get involved for a short period of time and we help them with our professionalism.  It is probably the biggest decision they make in their lives and it involves a lot of money! It is also the way I make a living...I don't even think about that though...most of these people consider me family after it's all said and done...and I love it!

Gail, again, you are so right on!  The personality and fit say's it all.

Thank you for a nice and very intellectual post!

not a problem,,, i like to live life to the fullest, so i am constantly trying to better myself in every way,,, i was told that the best focus on what they are great at, but it seems that it is the complete opposite,, they hone the skills that they are great at, but spend countless hours on their weaknesses which helps them to become great, because you are only as strong as your weakest link,,,

Rick,

I do the same. Yes, you have to gain control of your "weakest link".  I agree 100%

Best to you in 2008 and stay in touch! Karen
