Hyper Local Challenge... The Faces & Places of Your Community

Real Estate is Local and Hyper Local blog posts are a fabulous way to provide content for the folks who may just be your next potential client. From Subdivisions to Homeowner's Associations, and Local Businesses to Events, the consumer likes loves to learn about an area that they are considering making home.

I love my community and I love sharing that with the world.  I write at least two hyper local posts each week and my phone rings off the hook.  Sometimes, the voice on the other end of the line just wants to know about the hours of a certain business I wrote about or maybe they want to know what the bumper boat rates are, but sometimes..... They want to buy or sell a property in the area!  Whatever they are calling for, I try to remember that "The more people I know, the more people I know".

The thing I love most about my community are the people.  Without the people, what is a community? As I was exiting the carpool lane at my son's primary school one day, I smiled and waved at Officer Tony of Morehead City, NCOfficer Tony. Officer Tony is the fabulous Police Officer who directs traffic at the local schools each morning and afternoon.  He always has a smile on his face (except when someone is driving too fast or texting when they should be paying attention), and he does a wonderful job.  I have never met anyone who doesn't know and appreciate Officer Tony.

The idea for a Hyper Local Challenge popped in my head. What if everyone wrote a series of posts about the people and the small businesses in their community?  If you follow the SEO Guidelines in a previous post by Brad Andersohn (no need to re-invent the wheel) you WILL dominate Google.  The person or small business you write about needs to be related to your area.  I know that many people will not google the search term, "Officer Tony", so let me give you an example of how I would make this post work for me:

Meet Officer Tony! He is a police officer for the Town of Morehead City, North Carolina.  Most mornings, you can find him on Country Club Road, directing traffic for the Morehead City Primary School.....

The Challenge

The Challenge begins on June 1st and ends on June 30th. Write a post EVERY day (That's 30 posts).  At Least ten (10) of those posts need to be Hyper Local Posts about people or small businesses in your community.

You need to read Brad Andersohn's POST. You need to bookmark it and you need to read it again and again and again. You really need to implement his suggestions in order for positive results. His suggestions for writing a post for SEO are fabulous and they work! The purpose of this challenge is to recognize the wonderful folks and businesses in your area, but also to write a blog post that ranks well in the search engines and focuses on a specific community.  Use this challenge to learn a little bit about the folks in your area, and to gain SEO and recognition as the "Local Expert".

For those of you that complete the challenge, You will receive 4000 bonus points!  Aren't the folks at AR wonderful?  Remember, this challenge isn't for the points (although the points are cool). The challenge is just one more way for you to get better at writing hyper-local posts that not only recognize special people and businesses (and whether they admit it or not, people love to be recognized), gain a little more exposure and SEO, and become a little closer to becoming "The Local Expert" of your area!  You do not have to be a Rainmaker to participate.... All are Welcome!

Once you have completed the challenge, send an email to our very own AR Sweetheart, Kerrie Greenhalgh, at kerrie@activerain.com.  Make sure you include your Activerain username, so they may review your blog and award those wonderful points!

Here are a few suggestions of people and businesses to write about... the possibilities are endless.

The mayor of your town, the coffee shop owner or the coffee shop, the scuba diving instructor, the cashier that makes your day, the antique shop on the corner, the local historian, the restaurant with the best burgers, the librarian, the daycare provider, the pharmacist that knows customer service, the chef or bartender at your favorite hot spot, the sign shop, the PTO President, the Chief of Police, the Fire Marshall, The volunteer at the local animal shelter or the local pet shop, the director of the Boys & Girls Club.... anyone or anyplace who makes your community special (trust me, there are lots of them)!
