LOVE has no Boundaries, People do!

Love has no boundaries - Melinda PetersonLOVE has no Boundaries, People do!  Recently, a friend told me a story about being raised as a black man in a white neighborhood in the sixties.  It was a time filled with hatred and prejudice.  I asked how he was able to get through it without feeling prejudice himself.  He said his parents taught him that Love has no color.  His comment was so profound to me that it triggered some memories that have been etched in my mind forever.

When I was six years old,  my step-father beat me with a dog leash for a period of three years.  He was a Jewish Carpenter who took his anger issues out on me.  I never understood it, but several years later, I learned of another Jewish Carpenter who laid down his life for mine.  Love is not a respecter of persons.

When I was 10, I accompanied my mother to the gas station on the way to school.  When she got out of the car to pump the gas, she stumbled.  An ignorant man on the other side of the isle commented... 'A little drunk this early in the morning, aren't you?!'  My mother replied... 'You bastard!'  She was always a little spunky that way.  Little did the guy know that she had Multiple Sclerosis.  Love has no disability.

When my daughter was 12, she was called into the Principal's office for wearing a Disney sweatshirt to school.  They had a policy that any clothing with any insignia was considered 'gang attire.'  My daughter asked the Principal why a Disney sweatshirt with Minnie Mouse on it would be considered 'gang attire?'  She was told not to question.  When the Principal relayed the story to me, he was indignant that my daughter said this... 'My mom always taught us to question authority... and if more people had done so during World War II, perhaps Hitler wouldn't have murdered over 6 million Jews!'  He asked if I really said that... I smiled and nodded.   Love conquors ignorance.

Mel,

You are such a wise one around here.  I find it interesting that the French people loved Louis Armstrong and other black artists when they performed in France.  There was no prejudice for their skin colors.  I also love that Louis Armstrong wrote the song about seeing love everywhere he want,,what a wonderful life...Love conquers all--not limited by human conditions...A

Mel, if we all practiced KINDNESS, also giving people the benefit of the doubt, without all this extremism the world would be a better place. Sorry to hear about your situation with your father. Awful.

If I were to covet anything... it would be wisdom and understanding Alexandra!  I LOVE the song... 'What a Wonderful World!'  Louis Armstrong knew a little something about life, didn't he?!

Totally agree... Gary!  My REAL dad is a gem... it was my step-father who was the terror!

Mel, a beautiful story with sadness intertwined.  I once dated a gentleman that had a deep purple red birthmark on one whole side of his face and I never saw it.  Not until someone asked me about it and at that time I did not know what they were talking about.  I just never saw it, I only saw him, the real him. Love and friendship does not see the flaws if indeed they are flaws.

You believe very much in the same way as I do and it is always refreshing to see.

Thank you kindly... Q'man!  We should raise awareness by raising our kids and grandkids to be colorblind ;)))

That's very very sweet... Sharon!  You've lifted my spirit on cloudy days and put a smile on my face when no one else could.  I appreciate you and I thank you for your kind 'suggest' ;)))

I love the new pic... Mary... you look mahvelous girl ;)))  Some might suggest that I take off my rose-colored glasses, but I prefer to see the world through a palette of beautiful colors.  Thank you for your sweet comments!

Mel... Love has no boundaries is so true and you said it so beautifully with words, personal accounts and memories of days of ignorance - thankfully gone by, the angelic butterfly (symbolizing freedom) and of course your well put together video of life in Oregon was beautiful!

As of yet, I haven't had a cup of coffee - your video gave me a natural Adrenalin rush!

I never eat breakfast - your touching story, "Love has no boundaries," is like a bowl of Cheerios!

No matter what happened in our past, it's up to each and every one of us to make it better!

Applause! Applause! Applause!
