LOVE has no Boundaries, People do! Recently, a friend told me a story about being raised as a black man in a white neighborhood in the sixties. It was a time filled with hatred and prejudice. I asked how he was able to get through it without feeling prejudice himself. He said his parents taught him that Love has no color. His comment was so profound to me that it triggered some memories that have been etched in my mind forever.
When I was six years old, my step-father beat me with a dog leash for a period of three years. He was a Jewish Carpenter who took his anger issues out on me. I never understood it, but several years later, I learned of another Jewish Carpenter who laid down his life for mine. Love is not a respecter of persons.
When I was 10, I accompanied my mother to the gas station on the way to school. When she got out of the car to pump the gas, she stumbled. An ignorant man on the other side of the isle commented... 'A little drunk this early in the morning, aren't you?!' My mother replied... 'You bastard!' She was always a little spunky that way. Little did the guy know that she had Multiple Sclerosis. Love has no disability.
When my daughter was 12, she was called into the Principal's office for wearing a Disney sweatshirt to school. They had a policy that any clothing with any insignia was considered 'gang attire.' My daughter asked the Principal why a Disney sweatshirt with Minnie Mouse on it would be considered 'gang attire?' She was told not to question. When the Principal relayed the story to me, he was indignant that my daughter said this... 'My mom always taught us to question authority... and if more people had done so during World War II, perhaps Hitler wouldn't have murdered over 6 million Jews!' He asked if I really said that... I smiled and nodded. Love conquors ignorance.
