So another year begins and just like many of you....I made a New Year's resolution to lose weight. I think things are different this year, because I feel more motivation this time around. They say you can't do it until you're ready....well I am finally ready. I don't want this body anymore. I want a nicer model. I feel like I'm walking around in a beat up old Chevette with the bumper duct taped on and I want a sleek, shiny new BMW! Get my drift?
I'm tired of telling myself I don't really look like the person that is starring back at me in the mirror. It must be the mirror!! It's not me! Yeah right! Ever catch yourself in a store and walk past a mirror and glance at yourself and then need to go back and take a double look to see if that was really you? I swear they install "fat mirrors" in the stores to make you look bigger than you think you are!
Anyhow....I've created a new group on ActiveRain titled "Taking It Off". Whether you have 10 lbs to lose or 210 lbs to lose, please feel free to join.
Not all diets work the same for everyone. So you do whatever diet has proven to work for you in the past. I for one, can't do gym's.....for this very reason below. This would be me....
.........Now that you've stopped laughing. It's time to start putting your plan together on what you are going to do to lose this weight! How about if we start one week from today? On January 15th? This will give us time for more people to join the group and also give you time to clean out the cupboards and fridge of all those goodies you won't be eating anymore! It'll give you one week to find a walking partner if you need one, or a gym buddy, or to get ready however you need to.
On January 15th, we will all weigh ourselves. I'm not asking you to publish these numbers unless you want to!! Trust me, I won't be publishing mine anytime soon! ;)
Keep a journal of your weight-loss journey. Your beginning weight and all of your measurements. And BE HONEST about your numbers. Don't fudge them any! Take some "before" photos, so you will have something to compare to later!
Start a weekly goal list of how many pounds you want to lose each week until you reach your goal. Smaller goals of losing 2 or 3 pounds a week seem much easier to reach rather than saying, I want to lose 75 lbs. If you're meeting your weekly goals, then you will meet you end goal. Be realistic while setting these goals. If you set too high of a goal each week and you don't reach it, you will start to get discouraged and quit. You're not a quitter. You can do this! Then at least once a week, post on how you're coming along. Let us know if you met your goal that week or not. If you need some motivation, let us know. We are here to support you! We can do this!
Now go join my group "Taking It Off", find a buddy to keep you motivated and clean out the fridge and cupboards and I will see you back here in one week on the 15th to get started!
I believe you all will have fun. The main goal is to do it for life. Once you all get there you will have a blast. The Doctor says minimum of 30 minutes a day of some type of exercise is again the minimum. It is for your health and it is our vehicle and we must want to do this. Once we start eating correctly we will have more energy and others will want to be like us. Then you have added more to your AR new group. Good Luck
As I sit here and eat my banana........I reluctantly join this group!!!!! Actually, a resolution was to eat one whole piece of fruit per day. CHECK! (for today) Thanks Becky for starting the group! I would like to lose a total of 25 lbs. Hey when you have already lost 80lbs what's another 25? I have maintained my current weight for about 1.5 years and have been quite happy but decided to go a little further this year. Some of the things that I want to incorporate is walking my dogs for 1 hour 3 days a week. Vet recommended anyhow since my 12 yrd old Shepherd/Husky is not a little arthritic.....why not all benefit, right? I am breaking out my food scale again to portion food. Kinda fell off the wagon a little AND the days I don't walk my dogs I will walk 2 days for an hour. All right Becky - I am holding you to this!!!!!! Off to work on my goals!! A little hint? What helped me shed 80 lbs was nothing more than portion control! I kept a food diary, portioned everything and I PROMISE you I was never deprived!!! If I wanted a beer, I drank it. Just meant I had to cut something else out. If I wanted a brownie, I ate it. Just had to rearrange the calories a little for the day! Here's to all of us!!!
