Yes, June 1st is the beginning of the hurricane season here in Louisiana and in the Atlantic. And while hurricanes make for good satellite photography, we are all happy looking at archive images of past hurricanes. The one pictured below is Ivan in 2004.

Hurrican season starts June 1st

If you are new to a hurricane area, you should probably take a few minutes to read about hurricane preparedness. This week was actually Hurricane Preparedness Week. For information about what you can do to prepare now and shortly before a storm, visit the National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane season starts June 1st in the Atlantic

As your Realtor, I also need to remind you to check your insurance and your coverage. If you need to change something, now is the time to do it.

If you are currently in the process of buying a home, make sure you activate (and possibly pay) for your insurance as soon as you can. If your insurance is not in place and a named storm enters the Gulf, you will not be able get coverage and you will not be able to close on your home until the storm is gone.

Wishing everyone a hurricane free hurricane season!

This is a good reminder for those areas most susceptible to hurricanes to make sure their insurance is updated and current and they have a disaster plan in-place.

Dr. Chantal, great post! This part of the year is rough for us as we primarily write insurance in the gulf coast & SE States.  Lets hope that their predictions are right, lets have a mild season!!!
