Change is In the Air - Apathy is a Thing of the Past - New Hampshire Primary

nh first in the nation primaryTHERE IS CHANGE IN AIR--

SOMETHING IS VERY DIFFERENT IN NEW HAMPSHIRE  ON THIS EVE OF THE FIRST IN THE NATION PRIMARY!

~~ IT IS 30 DEGREES WARMER THAN NORMAL

~~ THERE ARE POLITICIANS EVERYWHERE

~~ THERE ARE CAMERA CREWS AND BRIGHT LIGHTS.

~~  THERE ARE VOLUNTEERS MAKING PHONE CALLS.

~~ THERE ARE YOUNG PEOPLE AND OLD PEOPLE CANVASSING THE NEIGHBORHOODS.

~~ THERE ARE RALLIES AND HOUSE PARTIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE.

There is an excitement in the air that I have not experienced before during the primary season!

During the past week, I have had the opportunity to see most of the candidates running for president in person.  I am struck by the CHANGE in the air.   The apathy of years past is gone.  People are opptimistic and passionate!

I have met volunteers from many states and from all over the world who are here in New Hampshire working for the candidate they believe will be America's next president.

I was stuck when I met a mother and her son from South Africa at a rally-- the came to America because they wanted to experience Democracy in Action!

We often take our right to vote for granted and become cynical or apathetic.  This year is different.   It is difficult to put into words what is happening, but there is CHANGE in the air!

    Be sure to Vote

Carole ~  My husband went to vote early this morning and said he was surprised at the long lines.  I am goiing to try to get there after lunch, but before the school lets out for the day. I think there are a lot of choices this time and New Hampshire citizens have taken the time to educate themselves and then go out and vote.  I'll keep you posted.

Joan it is great to see people excited about one of the greatest privileges and freedoms that we have, and the warm weather just makes it better.

But a little cold weather would maybe help to keep some of the politicians inside ........ LOL

I voted on my way home from Concord and at that point the turn out in my town was very strong. Should be interesting to see the results tonight.

George  Nothing will keep the politicians inside -- the energy is quite exciting!  The legislative session has also begun in New Hampshire and I will be attending some sessions tomorrow.  Exciting times we are living in.  When is the primary in Connecticut?

Monika  Between the Sox, the Patriots and these elections, I may never get a good night's sleep again!  Oh yes and then we have superbowl coming up.  It is going to be a long, interesting evening.

Hi Joan....wow what a turnout. It was very busy at our precinct! Heck it's only 8:00 and they just called it for McCain!

Hi Joan -- What a great turnout!  It is so exciting to see people participate in democracy!  I was shocked that at 8:12 CNN called the election for McCain!  I guess he is the comeback kid this time.  Now we have to wait and see what happens with the DEMS.  See you Friday at Public Policy - I am sure we are going to have a long day reviewing all the new bills.

Sally  I was up at our state legislature today - both things are HOT in New Hampshire!  Lots of people energized and involved in the process. Lots of CHANGE in the air -- and some HOT air too!

Joan - I watched the Republican/Democratic Debates the other night.  I wish I had counted the number of times the D party candidates used the word change.  They could have wion an award for the most overused word in a single debate.  There was a lot of talk about change, but unless I missed something, very little substance to what change and how it would be implemented.  Did I miss something of maybe I was just tired and cranky and coming down with a cold?

Well New Hampshire you sure fooled us.  Was it the tears that did it?  We'll see how that fares in California.

Marlene Hope you are feeling better and have your voice back.  As one of the commentators stated for all of the candidates "Where's the beef?"  I think they need to get specific NOW!

Terrylynn  It is going to be so interesting to see how things turn out.  There is so much up in the air with both the Republicans and the Dems.  I am glad that the California primary is not so late in the process as it used to be (when I lived there).  Here is to super Tuesday!

Joan,

Evidently a large majority of the nation is ready for a change. Hopefully all change-favoring politicians will honor their word when in Washington and not fall back on the useless partisan bickering that has recently stalemated just about everything.

Georgina  I just was watching the results from Michigan.  This certainly is an interesting year!  I hear that this is the first time since 1928 that an incumbents or VP has NOT run for office.  This looks to me like democracy in Action!

EskoIt certainly is an interesting election cycle.  I agree that everyone want to see the dems and republicans working together - to find common ground and to get things done!
