What is one of the most alluring spaces in a home on a dreary day in January?  Easy answer...the FIREPLACE.  Take the time to look at this space though the eyes of a prospective buyer and make it POP!

These fireplaces settings were staged by Design To Market home staging in Cincinnati.  For more information contact Jo Potvin at 513-265-0952 or visit our website at www.designtomarketllc.com .

Thanks for your comments.  I think the interesting thing is that while they can be a wonderful asset in a room...when poorly done they can really do damage to the desirability of the home.  So often we see little candles and photos that just set a bad tome in the room!

Right on, Jo.  You did a fantastic job with each of these!

Great job.  I know we can't be sure there is a fire going for showings, but for photos, it is SO nice to have it lit.  Really warms up the space and makes it even more inviting.  I made the mistake of using an unlit fireplace picture in some marketing materials.  Someone pointed it out to me, and it has bothered me ever since because THEY WERE RIGHT!!!

Kim,

Thansk so much for the tip.  So often now it is as easy as a flip of a switch to "light" these fireplaces.  I will talk to our photographer.

Fernanado, Great job with the photo you included.  I think the artwork over the mantel is a perfect way to make that fireplace POP!

Susan and Vincent,  Thanks for the comments.  I think one important tool in making sure these fireplaces pop is to have the right size artwork.  In most situations one fairly large piece of artwork is the best but you may also find smaller pieces in a series can be effective as well.

Jo -- I love, love, love fireplaces! You did a fabulous job highlighting them.  They make a room feel warm and welcome.  I especially love the one in the top photo.  I think dining rooms with fireplaces are wonderful!

I agree just last Sunday my husband and I were relaxing by our fireplace, listening to classical music and I thought THIS IS HOW EVERY REALTOR should show a home with a fireplace. So many don't even light it during the Open House. Hmmmm, MISTAKE

Yes the fireplace is a focal point where potential clients will envision themselves  celebrating the holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and more. Elevate the buyer's desire for the home by creating and atmosphere they can envision themselves living in.  Great post.

I think the significance of both Phyllis and Brenda's comments is that typically fireplaces are attractive in a home and they elicit good feelings...it is important to play that up!

Great job making the fireplace the focal point on each of these...I especially like the third photo.

thanks for the comments.  Karen, the third photo was an interesting project in that the home is contemporary and we staged it with the intent of showing transitional furnishing in a contemporary setting.  We often strive to do this to show that "shaking" up the look of a home can add interest and open it to more possibilities in terms of the preferences of the buyer.

Jo: You always use just the right accessories to highlight and accentuate the best features of the homes you stage. Great job.

Jo, Great job on staging those fireplace areas.  I have a question for you (or anyone out there) - I am ready to do a project where there is just a tile surround around a gas fireplace and my question is - I have some fairly large "mantel shelves".  Do you think it would give a false impression (that it's included with the house) to hang one  above the tiles and decorate as a normal mantel or should I just hang a large picture?  Thanks in advance for your input!

Sheri,  I would be tempted to play it safe and just hang a large piece of artwork.  I try to avoid anything that could cause confusion in the sale of the home.  If you are willing to leave it in the event of a question you could use it but otherwise the picture would be best.  Jo
