The Ernest Just Environmental Science Expo and TEACH FLEET Lego Ship Show
Saturday, June 2nd From 10AM to3PM at Ernest Just Middle School 1300 Campus Way North Mitchellville, MD 20721.
The purpose of this event is to celebrate and educate about the diversity of Americans who have contributed to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), with a focus on environmental and marine science to inspire students to consider STEM careers by meeting STEM professionals and college recruiters.
The world's largest collection of nearly 100 large Lego ships will be on display. Many of the ships are 5 ft. to 6 ft. long (3 ft. average). Each ship is named after a female, African-American, Hispanic American, Native American, or Asian American STEM contributor, and features a full biography of the ship's namesake to inspire students.
STEM professionals from the following organizations will talk about their work and careers:
- United States Coast Guard
- U.S. Maritime Administration
- NOAA
- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Office of Naval Research
Naval Research Laboratory
PEPCO
Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC)
Educators from the following universities will talk about their schools and educational opportunities:
- Bowie State University
- Howard University
- Morgan State University Estuarine Research Center
- U.M.E.S. Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center
