Completed in 1974, the Fort Worth Water Gardens is one of the coolest places to visit – literally and
figuratively - when you are in the Fort Worth Cultural District. Described fondly as a “cooling oasis” set
amidst a “concrete jungle”, the 4.3 acre site was funded by the Amon Carter Foundation and designed
by well-known architects John Burgee and Philip Johnson from New York.

What to Enjoy When You Are in the Fort Worth Water Gardens
Here are the various attractions you can enjoy when visiting the site.

Meditation Pool
The meditation pool boasts of an enchanting view with waters cascading from almost ninety degrees all
the way down to a sunken walkway.

Aerating Pool
This particular attraction is best known for its various spray fountains.

Active Pool
Considered as the main highlight of the Fort Worth Water Gardens, the active pool boasts of water
flowing down in a series of steps and terraces at a height of 38 feet and falling onto a beautiful small
pool at the end. The depth of the pool had been reduced from its original measurement of 9 feet to a
safer height of 2 feet.

The Active Pool may also be recognized by classic movie lovers as it had served as one of the settings for
the 1975 film Logan’s Run as well as the adaptation of The Lathe of Heaven for TV in 1979.

Mountain
Although not natural, the park’s concrete mountain is still a joy to climb. It will take you approximately 2
minutes to reach the peak. It can be a good daily workout if you live nearby.

Nature
Although the place is naturally best known for its marine attractions, that’s not the only thing you can
enjoy gazing at when visiting. Be sure to have your nature or outdoor guidebook ready as the park is
also home to more than 500 species of trees, flowers, and plants.
