Today at the Inman Connect conference, ActiveRain and in particular our upcoming real estate portal Localism got a huge boost, thanks to Brad Inman.  During his opening speech Brad segwayed into how online, user generated content, particularly at the local level is beginning to fill major gaps in the home buying process.  He specifically mentioned how this community being built at ActiveRain is addressing this issue, and also introduced the world to Localism.  While we are still be a few months away from an "official" launch of the site, but we're not definitely not going to complain about the extra attention :)

It was a very gratifying and validating moment for us and we feel our members should also feel proud of what they are doing.

Thanks again Brad...

Matt - How awesome is that? There's few things better than getting free press, especially coming from someone as respected as Brad. No doubt it was a very affirming moment for you. We're especially proud of you and all your efforts. (Does this make begin to make up for all the late nights? It's a nice start!)

I'm pretty new to all of this, but it sounds better than good.  I'm so glad to have found ActiveRain.  As a fairly new agent (less than a year) I have to ask (and please forgive my ignorance) who is Brad Inman?  any relation to Inman News?  I get their newsfeed on my site and love reading when I can find the time.

Deborah's words are great - use them well.

Hard to imagine where we all will be a year from now!

Maggie, I had the same question.  I googled the name and would bet he is the Brad Inman who wasCEO at HomeGain and not the sheriff's deputy in Rhode Island, but then that is why we were asking!

That other tools are recognizing the value of working with Active Rain confirms the validity of the network.  Localism can only continue to be a joy of communication between the business people wishing to serve buyers and sellers and share information that markets property.

If you cannot be my huckleberry, will you be my gooseberry?

Maggie/JudyAnn: Brad Inman is the founder of Inman News, and also has been behind several very successful real estate companies over the years.  He's typically considered to be one of the main thought leaders on the real estate industry.

Thank you Matt, for the information.  And to second Jason's comment.  Thank you Mr. Inman for recognizing Active Rain.  We KNOW, but when busy, influential people also KNOW, we can be sure we are in the Good Stuff column.

Along with user-generated content, it's also creating transparency in the market. Though some may object to this lack of secrecy, I believe that it will be crucial to continued success as a real estate professional.

Thanks for the news Matt and thanks to Brad for the PR!

Hahaha.

Matt, congratulations on what must have been a great, successful trip to the Inman News Conference.  It was great to have a chance to meet you guys, in person.

A quick note, you definitely show your age by this post, when you say the following:

During his opening speech Brad segwayed into how online, user generated content, particularly at the local level is beginning to fill major gaps in the home buying process.

I think you meant "segued".

"Segued" means making your way from one topic of conversation to another.

"Segwayed" on the other hand, means something like, "standing on a two-wheeled, GPS machine, driving around the Google campus, all day".

How every web 2.0 of you!

I have just created a new "group" on ActiveRain for anyone who is interested in Localism.  I have called the group Localism Beta for lack of a better term.

I have seen a number of different blog posts on the topic recently, including yours and yet there is no central place to locate articles that are written on such an important topic.

I would like to invite you to join the group and the edit your post and include the group as part of the distribution for others to easily find.  I would then encourage you to look and see what others have posted on the topic and share your thoughts and insights.  I am sure most of what we will see is support for the site as well as a tip or technique to best leverage it's potential to our benefit.

I am also certain that there will be some lively debate over the direction that Localism should go.  Now, I do not know what the ultimate business plan is and how much tweaking management will do on behalf of the users who have their own ideas on the site and how much is already set in stone - but certainly a debate is good for all.

So please, post your article and join us.

Now Have a Blessed Day,

John Occhi. Hemet CA REALTOR®

PS - All who read this post are more than welcome to join as well.  Please get involved and learn how to make this your most valuable internet resource
