If you work from home, you save time and money because you don't have to commute. Energy Efficient Home Office Equipment and Lighting, saving Energy with your Office Equipment, now a days the home office has several different pieces of equipment folks use to get their daily work done, which use electricity. Which sure can really add up on your energy bill. The following are some tips that will help you to be able to keep a bit more of that green in your pocket and less in the Electric Company's Bank Account, by saving energy with your Home Office Equipment.

  • Instead of having a screensaver come on when you're away from your computer, have it go into "sleep" mode, or simply turn the monitor off when you'll be away for awhile.

  • Set other office equipment (such as printers, scanners, copiers and fax machines) to automatically switch into sleep mode when not active. Aside from saving energy, the equipment will stay cooler which will help it last longer and saves on air conditioning costs.

  • Keep infrequently used equipment turned off or unplugged, and only switch them on when needed.

  • Use a power strip as a "central shut-off" for all your equipment when you leave your home office. You'll save up to 40 watts of stand-by power per device.

Good morning Dale -- great reminders to save energy in a home office situation.   Quite frankly, I have been disappointed with the lifespan of CFL lightbulbs -- maybe I had unrealistic expectations.

Dale, Those are some great tips!  If you shop around, Costco, Walmart and Home Depot have the CFL's in packages that are very reasonable for the package.  I haven't purchased them for quite awhile but it seems like a package of 4 or 6 was $13 or $15.  At those prices, it really makes sense to make the switch even if they don't last more than a year or so!

Dale, those are some great energy audit savings tips and much appreciated too! I also find that I need to check my lights more frequently when I get up early, because once the sun comes up, I forget to shut the lights off.

I'm really appreciative of these great tips.

Thanks Dale!

Dale,

I really like to see the side by side comparison of the two lightbulbs.

I have a question for you... if something is turned off but still plugged into the outlet, is it pulling energy?
